A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

Desire Resort in Cancun or Other Fun Clothing Optional Resorts?

My wife and I are thinking about going to the Desires Resort outside of Cancun this spring. Can someone provide a report of a visit there they have taken? We are not swingers - just free spirits. But I do enjoy hanging out naked while on vacation (although she isn't really into it that much). Any other places one would suggest? And not just for nudity - but for a lot of fun too.

My favorite clothing optional beach in Mexico is Zipolite, in the state of Oaxaca, just an hour or so from Huatulco Airport. A taxi from Huatulco Airport costs about 15 US$. There are plenty of accomodations at Zipolite. My suggestions to stay: "El Alquimista" , "Lo Cosmico" and "Solstice". El Alquimista and Lo Cosmico are next to each other, Solstice is on the other end of the beach. Nothing to do with swingers, it is only a clothing optional beautiful quiet beach with a unique situation that allows you to see sunrising and sunsetting from and over the ocean in winter, that is now! Lot of fun there. It is a very safe place, friendly, with tourists mostly from Europe. Great place. I just came back last week from a three week stay so the info is current. Ocean is really warm all year round there. Keep in mind that winter in the mexican caribbean can be sometimes rainy and rather cold. That is not the case in Zipolite, which is located in the pacific ocean. Sunny and warm, granted.
