A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

PRESS RELEASE

Pequeños Embajadores de Surf 2012

This weekend the children from Puerto Escondido and Chacahua gathered to celebrate the Children's day at Carrizalillo beach for the annual "Pequeños Embajadores del Surf" or "Little Surfing Ambassadors". The conditions were better than expected and the audience as well, as the organizers were stoked to see 2-3 foot waves, perfect size for the kids to rip and have fun. The event was the first one held by the new Association of the Surf in the State of Oaxaca.

There were a total of 45 competitors in 5 different categories and an expression session heat for kids under 10 years old who were the standout of the whole event. Jafet Ramos took the first place of two categories, Under 18 and Under 16 by having the best performance of the whole event during both finals, showing his talent. He showed his repertoire of speed, power, flow and innovative maneuvers, taking the two main categories. Sebastian Williams won the first place giving a demonstration of flawless surf and a unique style. Daniela Ramos (Jafet's sister) won the girls category and Tehuen Petroni took the honors for the bodyboarding division.

In the end, the main goal was accomplished. It was an event to celebrate the Child's Day and they all had a great time at the beach watching good surf and living the dream.

We want to thank our sponsors for all their support. Quiksilver, Super Vital, La Juquileña, Gelateria LA Malagueña, Pizzas Mediterraneo, Colorada, Leo y Ale Noguera, Beyond, Detona, Cafeteria Carrizalillo and a huge shout out to the volunteers and the Puerto Escondido Lifeguards for taking good care of our children.
