A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

White balance and good economic spillover in Zipolite

Zipolite Beach, Oaxaca.- This tourist destination belonging to San Pedro Pochutla obtained excellent economic benefits in its chain of tourist service providers during the days of November 15, 16, and 17, said workers from hotels and restaurants located on the cobblestone street.

In addition to this excellent income from visitors, Javier Valencia Silva, director of Municipal Civil Protection, stressed that lifeguards reported no losses on this extensive nudist beach.

“Zipolite had very good mobility on the beach and in businesses, I think that the International Jazz and Something More Festival of Mazunte contributed a lot, where more than 10 thousand visitors arrived and of course hundreds of them also arrived at this beach,” he said.

However, the director of Municipal Civil Protection pointed out that unfortunately last Sunday on the Panteón beach in Puerto Ángel the death by heart attack of a 51-year-old CLP male from the State of Mexico was reported.

Javier Valencia Silva, highlighted that the coordination of the police corporations of the federal, state and municipal governments, as well as the Mexican Army, managed to guarantee the safety of the stay of thousands of tourists on the Oaxacan beaches such as Agua Blanca, Ventanilla, Mazunte, Arroyo Cruz, Zipolite, Puerto Ángel, Cuatunalco, among other beaches and bays.

It is important to note that Mazunte, according to unofficial data from taxi drivers and hotel employees, offers around 1,500 rooms, San Agustinillo around 300, Zipolite just over 700 and Puerto Ángel around 400 or 500 rooms, taking into account hotels, cabins, rooms in private homes and camping areas. It was reported that Mazunte and Zipolite obtained a 95% room occupancy.

With the weather getting cold — yes, even in Mexico — it must be time for a warming cup of traditional ponche.
