A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Hi Mexico-loving friends,

As we come to the middle of December, I thought I would send out one last email for the year.

A lot is changing in Mexico at the moment, especially in Mexico City.

If you haven't seen the latest updates, this article on Mexico News Daily explains how Mexico City should be in the red, but they are going to keep it in the orange to try to help the economy.

The hospitals in Mexico City are almost at capacity and the number of cases per day is at an all-time-high. They are asking that people remain inside whenever possible and if you do have to go out, please wear a mask and take extreme care to distance yourself from others as much as possible.

Visit Mexico City Virtually

This Wednesday at 11am Mexico City time, noon EST, my friend Ubish will be going live on my YouTube channel.

He's going to be taking you around Mexico City on a virtual tour talking all about Christmas traditions in Mexico and answering all of your questions about what Mexico City really looks like right now.

Head to my YouTube channel on Wednesday to catch the live event and ask Ubish any questions you have about visiting in the next few months.

I'm excited to be able to virtually share this beautiful city with you while we all give her a little bit of space at the moment to recover. I'm also excited for my first ever YouTube live. It's something I will definitely be doing more of in 2021 if it's something you guys enjoy, so be sure to leave feedback in the video comments!

Recent Videos and Blog Posts

I have been furiously editing all of my video content since arriving here in Mazatlan and I feel like I am ALMOST up to date and sharing in real-time. If you've missed my recent videos you can check them out here:

I was unsure about whether or not to write an "end of year" style post like I usually do each year. In the end, I decided it was something that I needed to write for myself and it's something that I hope you'll enjoy. It's been a challenging year, but it's also been a year that has made me feel so much gratitude. I have so much to be thankful for, including all of you.

I don't know if I would have made it through 2020 without your support. You may be a silent follower, but the fact that you've stuck around, opened and read my emails, given things a thumbs up or a like, has meant so very much to me.

You can read that full blog post here.

Happy holidays. I can't wait to share more with you all in 2021.

Feliz año nuevo amigos,

Laura
