A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Unforgettable Experience ... Amazing Staff

Review Submitted: July 14, 2012 Date of Stay: March 2012
Our experience at Vivo Resorts was unforgettable! The 4-bedroom beachfront condo is luxury at its finest, with a 180 degree view of the ocean to die for! There was ample space for us all, and the condo is very comfortable to live in. Listening to the sounds of the breaking waves both night and day was very soothing and good for the soul. The staff at Vivo are amazing too, and were always there to help in any way and answer any questions we had! In addition to relaxing in the infinity pool every day or going for a leisurely stroll along the miles and miles of beaches, there is lots to see and do in and around Puerto Escondido! We enjoyed swimming and snorkling at Carizalillo Beach, whale and dolphin watching, and a fantastic guided tour of the lagoon! The people are very friendly and made us feel welcome! I can't wait to go back! It's Heaven on Earth!

It was quite the momentous week as I moved into our condo for the first time since its completion. I spent the week with my teacher daughter and two of her teacher friends – it was great fun to share our ‘dream’ with one of our children and experience life at Vivo in reality! Vivo’s motto has been, “Making dreams into reality”, but we’ve now changed the motto to read, “Dreams are even better in reality!”. It’s almost impossible to describe the gorgeous condo, its ample size and beautiful furniture and décor. The 4 bedrooms/3 full baths provide lots of space and privacy and is very suitable for family gatherings or 2-4 couples sharing. The patio and ocean view is spectacular with unbelievable sunrises and sunsets. The lulling sound of the ocean waves calms the soul and the quiet beauty of the ocean in front with miles of beach, the mountains and fresh-water lake behind, and the infinity pool beside us reminds me that there is more to life than busyness! The Vivo staff are so happy and anxious to please in every and any way. Nothing is too much to ask. While it’s great to rest & relax, it’s fun to know that a trip to town (Puerto Escondido) is only a few kilometres away with lots of shopping and quaint beach restaurants. The local people are happy, friendly, and fun! We look forward to retirement when we can spend more time to enjoy our ‘dream’.

PRESS RELEASE

Puerto Escondido, commonly referred to as The Mexico Pipeline is an internationally recognized surfing paradise and desperately needs the help of the global surf community.??The town of Puerto Escondido was devastated by Hurricane Carlotta on Friday 15th June, 2012.  Two children died when their house was taken by a mudslide, and one 56-year-old woman passed away when the wind from the Category 2 Hurricane flipped her car.  The beach side town has been severely damaged and is in need of urgent assistance to rebuild this community that thrives on tourism.??The Puerto Escondido lifeguards are in need of help due to all damage caused by the hurricane. They previously had 8 towers along the beach at Playa Zicatela and now there's not a single one of them standing after the hurricane. This is just one example of what is required to help rebuild the local community; another is to promote tourism back to the area to stimulate the local economy.

The International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) announces the launch of its "Salvemos Puerto" (Save Puerto) auction of the global fundraiser campaign. The campaign will run till October 7, 2012 and all help and support is welcome!

Funds raised will directly support the IBA's humanitarian efforts in helping Puerto Escondido stage an upcoming surf event. This event will help drive tourism to the town and to promote the area as a safe tourist destination in order to drive the local economy. In addition, the funds raised will help mobilize resources to rebuild the 8 lifeguard towers at Playa Zicatela. The Salvemos Puerto campaign is sponsored by: Turbo Surf, Reeflex, Freedom Fins and Inverted.

Throughout the campaign the IBA is running many eBay auctions that you don't want to miss! Included is the auctioning off of the Top Photographers Exclusive One-of-a-Kind & Signed 16"x20" Canvas Prints of locations such as, Mexico, Hawaii, Indonesia and Australia. Photographers featured include: Sacha Specker, Edwin Morales, Ray Collins, Mickey Smith, Todd Glaser, Matt Catalano, Scotty Carter, and Mickey Edwards. Included in the Art portion of the auction is an epic wooden wave painting piece, by highly recognized Surf artist - Erik Abel; along with a metal sculpture of an empty wave designed by Sean Tuttle; and a large scale surf painting by Ryan O'Connor. There is more to come, so stay tuned for the remaining and complete list of auction items being sold on eBay at: http://myworld.ebay.com/cah20girl

The Salvemos Puerto Photo & Art Auction is now launched! Over the next week there will be eBay auctions, and you do not want to miss out on these once-off canvas prints by top photographers!

To start off the photo and art auction there are two auctions running with top Australian photographers, Ray Collins and South African's finest, Sacha Specker. Collins' photo, "From where you'd rather be" was shot in Puerto Escondido.

The IBA is excited about the launch of this campaign, as it's now global within the entire surfing community. "We want the global surf community to get involved together, as this is the best way to raise funds for Puerto. Together we owe this special beach town so much because it feeds surfers with amazing waves and good vibes," IBA Salvemos Puerto Campaign Coordinator, Michelle Rozzen, said.

?IBA is the sole professional World Tour for Bodyboarding, with the best riders and events from around the world. The IBA produces and controls all elements of the World Tour from the events, the Tour, the media coverage and the athletes. Huatulco Property Rentals As opposed to Huatulco Resort Holidays - The convenience Booking

Huatulco Property Rentals As opposed to Huatulco Resort Holidays - The convenience Booking

This is a fact that individuals are hesitant in terms of renting an individual villa happens because they might be underneath the perception that arranging using a mainstream resort is simpler, safer and more affordable. Nevertheless , renting an individual villa within Huatulco is starting to become increasingly easier as a consequence of online booking organizations and travel specialists. The developing trend towards hiring a personal villa provides extensive might be accounted for by the fact that renting an exclusive villa is not just easier, is actually way more flexible and there will be often more features, privacy and also luxuries. In addition to that - 9 instances outside of 10 - it really is LESS EXPENSIVE!! This may seem i gamble its hard for you to believe but there is absolutely no hiding the facts in the dollars and pennies.
Easy Reserving Huatulco Cottages Huatulco carries a dedicated online reservation engine for Property rentals which will be launching all November '08. The main advantage of this online reserving method is it can easily quickly permit you to search by cost, facilities, amount of people, appointments, and so forth to assist narrow your into a villa that especially suits your journey needs. The purpose of all this to produce renting private rentals as simple as booking a resort when reaching journeys in which for you to remain Huatulco.
Once you identify your house of preference, the arranging process is very easy. You only reserve your house on the web and then complete typically the booking via credit-based card payment with all the booking business.
One of the better reasons for having renting an exclusive villa is that you simply will find private lodging for any number of any sizing. Therefore , whether you're a function of two or possibly a party of thirty five - there is also a villa that may satisfy your group and that we are able to ensure the knowledge will far overcome residing at one of the resorts because you have the privacy and comfort and ease of the authentic and stunning Huatulco rental property.
Huatulco Major resorts One of the primary problems related to booking hotels (either online or perhaps through vacation agents) is the fact travelers are already required to count on a restricted quantity of pictures and opinions for many years. Worse, many of these pictures and evaluations are usually skewed, and when you fall away from the traditional one-bedroom arranging (if you could have greater category of four or wish 2 or more rooms) - your current process becomes much more complicated as it is often very challenging to book several areas jointly.
Yet another issue is some time it requires to prepare the booking specifics together with your local travel agent. Travel specialists often represent a number of travel companies (cruise firms, resorts, major resorts, and so forth ) therefore it may take them time for you to make an effort to accommodate your travel requires. Whereas it is possible to book an individual Huatulco villa on the web once you've chosen the the particular villa which a person have selected. visit site
It is also quite normal for joint tourists to get broken up in two different regions in the resort as well as to ought to delay while staff understands whatever they offer whilst they thought they arranged before hand. This arises as a lots of time once you book a hotel online or by using a agent, the particular confirmation details avoid usually get well confirmed unless you reach the home. Oftentimes tourists end up disappointed given that they arrive very thrilled for his or her dream holiday learn that their traveling plans are actually changed.
Realization The actual between booking any villa versus the resort is you have an overabundance control of your current journeys whenever you book a house privately on the internet. Most tourists know their vacation availability along with what kind of lodging and facilities they really want, for them to easily choose their own villa for ones and never have to handle a tour operator. Another massive good thing about renting villas is you can accommodate intended for categories of any size and also request group accommodations. As mentioned before, one of the greatest downfalls of reserving a resort may be the not enough up-to-date information photos about the lodging services. That's you should know for that growing trend involving travelers who really choose to book their very own private villa(s) on the web.

    1. Re: Nature and Wildlife
no monkeys...lots of birds, iguanas, lizards, snakes....great viewing in the early morning at the copalita ruins just above Bocana beach...don't do a tour, just catch a cab and hire a guide on site.(Bocana del Rio Copalita Archaeological Zone)
You will be at Brisas?? You will see lots of iguanas and lizards and birds right there at the resort while walking from your room to the beaches....don't take the little cabs for the best sightings. We had an iquana on our windowsill the last time we were there...called her Snoopy because she kept peeking in our window.
Snorkel beach right at the resort too. You will see lots of fun sea creatures right there.
highly recommend the day snorkel tour with Hurricane Divers (check out their website...just google hurricane divers huatulco)

Does anyone know the current conditions along the Zipolite/.Mazunte beach strip? Particularly the area of restaurant Alchemista and others in that area. I know they were hit very hard by Carlotta but don't know if they are open for business again or not. Would like to go over there on Sunday but not if everything is still closed up. Anyone been there recently?

I was at Zipolite about 10 days ago. Lots of the destruction from the storm has been cleaned up, but there are quite a few businesses that have been temporarily wiped out. I don't specifically know about the Alchemista, but I am sure the businesses that are left really need some customers. You should go, support a few of the surviving businesses and check it out for yourself.

Would you mind snapping some photos at Hotel Playa Zipolite and then right accross the alley on the beach at La Choza? And if you're checking it all out, a shot of Jaggers Bar accross from Carey would also be welcome. That's all in the Roca Blanca section. I'd also love to know how the lifegaurds fared...

Re: Current conditions at Zipolite, Mazunte...etc.

The Alchemista is open. They will appreciate your business and please tip generously. The government has helped businesses but families have received very little help. The man who usually waits on us lost his roof and they are still trying to get it replaced...not a good situation in the rainy season. San Agustinillo is pretty much back to normal although many restaurants close this time of the year. La Mora, La Termita, Punta Placer are all open and I think Mexico Lindo is opening for the July "temporada". Mazunte is still struggling to clean up and many of their beach restaurants were destroyed but some restaurants have reopened.

Re: Current conditions at Zipolite, Mazunte...etc.
    July 16, 2012 12:23PM
Sorry, didn't have my camera and I don't know what Zipolite looked like before Carlotta's visit. Keeping that in mind:
Hotel Zipolite looks to be fully operational and in good shape.
La Choza appears to be mostly operational, but still needs rebuilding of blown off/damaged palapa areas.
Alquemista appears to be completely normal - great food, wow!
A Nice Place on the Beach - also seems to be normal.
Brisas also appeared to be completely operational and fine.

Everything across the street - looks fine. Most of the shops were open Sunday afternoon.

Places that look to be hit hard or not open are: Lo Cosmica, Shambhala, and a few more in the Roca Blanca area - but I don't remember their names.

La Havana seems to have had about 1/3rd of their elevated cabanas blown down - and are now removed. But the others are still there and appear to be well used.

Thanks, Beachbay. I'll get the Hotel Playa Zipolite and Jaegger's Bar reviews up, then.
