A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

Hurricane-like winds in Oaxaca’s isthmus
Hurricane-like winds in Oaxaca’s isthmus
Warning in effect for La Venta-La Ventosa stretch of Panamerican highway
Mexico News Daily | Wednesday, February 10, 2016
The high winds that have been blowing across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec for the past few days have been described as having the characteristics of a category-2 hurricane.
Gusts up to 155 km/h have been recorded in the part of the isthmus located in the state of Oaxaca. Winds have toppled an electrical transmission tower, overturned tractor-trailers and blown down trees, billboards and highway signs in the Juchitán and La Ventosa area.
Damage has been reported to the roofs of at least three schools in the region.
Civil Protection officials blame cold front No. 37 for the windy weather.
The isthmus is a windy region most of the time, which is why it has attracted billions of dollars in wind power investments. But winds over 110 km/h aren’t much use to the energy industry.
At that speed, the turbines automatically shut down.
A warning has been issued for the stretch of the Panamerican highway between La Venta and La Ventosa. One of the restrictions imposed by the warning is that semis are prohibited from towing empty trailers.
Continuing high winds are forecast for today, with gusts over 90 km/h in the isthmus and in the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
