A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

Zipolite PSA Animation
Zipolite PSA Animation from jeff arak on Vimeo.
Zipolite means "death" in coastal Zapotec according to some locals. The local radio station in this small Mexican town produced this radio spot for English-speaking tourists. As someone that almost drowned there, they asked me to provide the voice.

“ Barcelo or Las Briasas? ”
03 January 2012, 11:22
We are looking at a trip at the end of January. I know lots has been written on both places, and they both seem to be nice, but looking for some feedback.
What we are interested in is the beach and access.
I understand you can be at distance away from the beach at L/B, is the Barcelo beach access closer?
Also, at the Barcelo, there seems to be waves, can you body surf?
Last question, at both places can you run on the beach?
Thxs!!

Th Barcelo beach s much longer and great for walking, slight slant in spots, but depends on the water.....its , close to dreams and other properties.....Las Brisas, has nice beach, but more cove like, and private, not as big of a stretch, from, what i remember...... we did some body surfing , on the Barecelo beach, when the waves are good....
Another gorgeous, beach, is where Secrets resort is......

From what I saw the La Briasas had lots of stairs down to the water. The Barcelo had no way near that kind of stairs. Actually when we stayed @ the Barcelo we just walked out of our room and down a short corridor & out on the beach we had no stairs @ all. We body surfed there.
Are you Nancy from Balgonie?
