A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Towns evacuated as Colima Volcano erupts

Increased activity reported at the volcano during the past 48 hours

Evacuation of towns near the Colima Volcano began yesterday after increased eruptions during the past 48 hours.
About 300 residents of La Becerrera, La Yerbabuena and San Antonio in the municipality of Colima had moved into emergency shelters, said the state’s Civil Protection office.
About 20 families were evacuated in Quesería, located in the municipality of Cuauhtémoc.
Large lava flows were seen on the southern slopes of the volcano, also known as the Volcano of Fire, and plumes of steam and ash rising at least two kilometers above the crater, reported Volcano Discovery.
Near-constant glowing avalanches could be seen on the southwest and south flanks.
Nearly 700 people from communities near the volcano were evacuated during eruptions in July last year.
Access to the Nevado de Colima National Park, five kilometers from the crater, was closed by officials yesterday.
Residents of nearby areas are being warned to watch for ash falls.
The 3,820-meter-high volcano straddles the Colima-Jalisco border about 700 kilometers northwest of Mexico City.
