A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Top ten rides of the 2012 Wave of the Summer season in Puerto Escondido

By: Mike Cianciulli
Around this time of year, we tend to look back and ask where did summer go? It seems like just yesterday Oscar Moncada caught a hollow eight-footer and kicked off the Wave of the Summer presented by Nike event in Puerto Escondido.

But it's actually been a long three months filled with hurricanes, wipeouts, callouts, broken boards, broken bodies and barrels, plenty of barrels -- which is why everyone flocks to Playa Zicatela in the first place.

This Saturday, the Wave of the Summer winning ride will be announced, as well as the season's Overall Performance Award. But first, let's check out the judges' top ten nominees, in chronological order.

“Super Value - The Best In Mexico!!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed 31 August 2012 via mobile
As we arrived we were greeted by the man himself Daniel, our extremely friendly, always happy and always helpful host, along with his very welcoming staff! With the intention of only staying 2 nights we were won over, not only by the views, but by the great rates that Brisa Marina offered for long stay guests and we ended up staying for 2 weeks! Brisa Marina provides a choice of rooms depending on your budget. The rooms were clean and secure with personal safes and each room was screened with mosquito mesh (and ours had en-suite). If you are two or more we would highly recommend staying for a week or more if you have the time to get the best value!thank you for such a memorable part of our trip, Emma & Shane
