Playa Zipolite. Welcome To The Beach Of The Dead!: We started the 2nd film cycle "Latin American Directors". Two documentary debuts will be screened this weekend, both by award-winning Latin American directors. On Saturday "The revolution of the gannets" by Luciana Kaplan, who is recognized for being a bridge and documenting the struggle of indigenous communities in Mexico. On Sunday we will have "Loss" by Vivían García Besné, director and screenwriter who has undertaken an effort to defend popular Mexican cinema through restoration and film preservation.

A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

Iniciamos el  2do ciclo de cine
 “Directoras Latinoaméricas”.     
 Dos óperas primas documentales serán proyectadas este fin de semana, ambas de directoras Latinoaméricas galardonadas.       
El sábado “La revolución de los alcatraces” 
de Luciana Kaplan, quien es reconocida por ser un puente y documentar la lucha de las comunidades indígenas en México. 
El domingo tendremos “Pérdida”
 de Vivían García Besné, directora y guionista que ha emprendido un esfuerzo por defender el cine popular mexicano a través de la restauración y la preservación fílmica.
