A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.
Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.
A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.
Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.
Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.
I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

Mexico has many natural treasures — and the beautiful Mexican beaches are but one of the things that makes Mexico so great. As Mexico is one of the most popular countries among LGBT travelers, it’s important to have gay-friendly beaches, inclusive spaces and fun experiences to make the entire foreign community feel welcome.
The 5 Most Beautiful Gay-Friendly Beaches in Mexico
1. Playa de los Muertos, Puerto Vallarta
Our first stop is a gay paradise — Puerto Vallarta has it all! Playa de los Muertos is the most famous gay beach in the country. You’ll find hundreds of gay men from all over the world, sunbathing and enjoying a refreshing drink by the sea. The Zona Romántica (the gay area) of Puerto Vallarta is home to some of the best restaurants, nightlife and hotels you can imagine.
2. Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo
Quintana Roo’s Riviera Maya runs from the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula down to Tulum. This area is more discreet than Puerto Vallarta, but it’s still a popular location for LGBT tourists. There are a number of resorts in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum with adult entertainment. If you’re interested, just make sure to book at an “adults only” hotel.
Riviera Maya is also home to several international gay events, especially at Mamita’s Beach Club, located in Playa del Carmen. Though this club attracts the most gay clientele, most bars and clubs here are gay-friendly.
3. Los Cabos, Baja California
Los Cabos is one of the most sophisticated tourist destinations in Mexico. While it might not be as exclusively gay as the other places we’ve mentioned, Los Cabos still has much to offer. Gay tourism here is on the rise, thanks to the discreet, friendly atmosphere. The most popular places in Los Cabos are the Passion Club & Lounge, the Closet and the Chandeliers Night Club.
4. Acapulco, Guererro
Only four hours from Mexico City, Acapulco is not the gay paradise you might expect, but it’s got its charms. One of the best-known gay-friendly beaches in Acapulco is Playa Condesa, which always promises a fun time with new friends.
5. Zipolite, Oaxaca
Zipolite is one of our favorite Mexican beaches, found between Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. Zipolite has a very relaxed vibe; not only is it one of the best gay-friendly beaches in Mexico, it also welcomes marijuana users and nudists. Known as the Beach of Love, it’s a true Eden where you can fool around with your partner — or look for a partner to fool around with — and nobody will bother you. If you’ve not visited Zipolite, what are you waiting for?
