A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

More information
The space

Cafe Maya is right on the beach and has amazing sunset views, and uniquely, is also the local Lifeguard Base. We serve healthy food, organic coffee, homemade bread and sweets, sushi, asian-mexican fare, burritos & wraps, sandwiches and seafood. The owner´s husband is the Lifeguard Captain (18 years of service) and gives Surf Classes and rents boards and boogie boards. We have constructed our guest house with our environment in mind and are all about relaxing and enjoying the beach at its finest!
Guest access

Guests have full access to the Cafe and beach lounge area, use of hammocks, etc.
Interaction with guests

We live here, so we are available 24/7 to assist our guests. For the moment, due to this fact I do not have safes in the rooms, as our presence guarantees the safety of our property. However, I do have an office where guests may store valuables if they prefer.
Other things to note

We have good WiFi internet and offer public telephone service, offer airport shuttle for 450-550 pesos and laundry service for a small fee. Room service from our Cafe is available. Also try a surf lesson or rent a body board or ask about the local tours.
