A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Zipolite is the beach where bathers go to swim nude but next month they can take off their clothes with more than 1,000 others.

The Oaxaca Tourism Ministry is promoting the 8th Nudist Festival at Zipolite as “the biggest event of its kind.”

To be held from February 2 to 5, “The Nudist Encounter of Mexico” boasts a new promotional poster and is described as “a unique experience that you have to live.”

Organizers estimate that the four-day-long festival will bring together some 1,200 nudists from 25 states and 16 countries.

They say it is the second most searched-for event held in Oaxaca, second only to the Guelaguetza.

“The purpose of this festival is the socialization of the practice of nudism, working on values such as tolerance and respect,” the organizers said in a series of information cards posted on their social networks.

The poster is labeled with the new state tourism brand: Oaxaca, Land Proud of its Roots, which will be officially launched next week in Madrid, Spain, during the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2023.

The organizers remarked that the number of lodging establishments that accept nudists rose to 11 in 2022, while 12 food and beverage establishments followed suit.

The 2020 edition of the festival had an average of 4,700 attendees per day. Destination searches on specialized lodging pages, travel agencies and flight bookings in internet search engines “have their highest peak of the year” during the festival, said the organizers.
