A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Zipolite, from "cemetery" to nudist beach, the best kept secret in Oaxaca Zipolite is recognized as one of the most beautiful nudist beaches in Mexico, however, its name hides a dark secret.

Zipolite, de “cementerio” a playa nudista, el secreto mejor guardado de Oaxaca - Revista Central
Zipolite es reconocida como una de las playas nudistas más hermosas de México, sin embargo, su nombre oculta un oscuro secreto.

If we talk about nudist beaches, we have to talk about Zipolite , a paradise located in Oaxaca that invites us to walk along its golden sand and swim completely naked in its crystal clear water.

Zipolite is an open sea beach , very close to Puerto Ángel and is the favorite destination for couples, friends and all those people who want to connect with the sea naturally.

Even in February the Nudist Festival is held , where hundreds of Mexican and foreign nudists take place on this magical beach.

But Zipolite was not always the paradisiacal place that we know, since according to the origin of its name, this place keeps a dark secret.

Zipolite, a place of the dead?

Although Zipolite is a paradise, it has a well-kept secret that has to do with the origin of its name.

Zipolite is a Zapotec word that means “beach of the dead” . Yes, of the dead!

But this name is not because other people's lives were ended in this place or because there were ghosts, but for another reason.

The name Zipolite comes from the legend that this place served as a cemetery, since it is believed that on this beach, the inhabitants buried their deceased.

There is not much information about this legend, only speculation that the remains of some people can be found under the beautiful golden sand and in the waves of the sea. Will be?

About the origin of Zipolite there is only legend, since it is a paradisiacal place, where couples, friends and families gather to admire the beauty of the sea.

How to get to Zipolite

If you don't know Zipolite and you want to visit it, go preparing your bags and plane tickets because this nudist beach is located in Oaxaca .

Zipolite is located in San Pedro Pochutla and just a few kilometers from Puerto Angel. Currently there are no direct flights to this place, but there are two options to get there.

The first is to travel by plane or bus to Huatulco . Once in Huatulco, take a bus to Pochutla and from here a bus or taxi to Zipolite.

The other option is to travel to Puerto Escondido and take a bus to Pochutla and then a bus or taxi to Zipolite.

The transfer time to Zipolite from Huatulco or Puerto Escondido can be almost 2 hours.
