A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

OAXACA, Oax. After a year of work at ground level and in the cabinet, Playa del Amor, in Zipolite, received the Platinum Beach badge that guarantees an environmental code of conduct to maintain a free and sustainable environment of the coastal ecosystem of Oaxaca.

Diana González García, director of the Environmental Sustainability area of the San Pedro Pochutla City Council, confirmed that the seal represents an added value (plus) that positions the renowned nudist beach as a worldwide reference by strengthening aspects of infrastructure, security, cleaning, services and preservation of the ecosystem.

He explained that the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC) qualified this space, located next to Zipolite beach, as suitable for its scenic beauty, environmental excellence, relevant information on the beach, solid waste management and universal accessibility.

"The Platinum Beach distinctive was achieved through the collaboration of the community and tourism service providers, in coordination with the local authority, now, it is sought that visitors value what they have and leave better than what they find the spaces".

He specified that the certification process included among its most important axes the sanitation of the beach, the conservation of the three mangrove strips that are located throughout the wide beach area and the protection of endemic species of flora and fauna.

Among the permanent actions, once the distinction was obtained, classified containers and informative signage were installed to instill codes of conduct in English and Spanish for visitors, as well as environmental education and cleaning days on the coastal surface that covers more than one kilometer .

The day before, the municipal president of San Pedro Pochutla, Saymi Pineda, participated to the state and federal authorities of the distinctive obtained by her administration, in such a way that there are now three Oaxacan beaches with a Platinum seal: La Delivery, in Huatulco; Mermejita, in Santa María Tonameca and Playa del Amor, in Zipolite.

FACT

The Mexican Institute of Normalization and Certification (IMNC) is a civil association accredited by the federal government for the evaluation of the conformity of the norm for the protection of the environment in the tourist beaches of Mexico.

It should be mentioned that the NMX-AA-120-SCFI standard reviews compliance in terms of water quality, solid waste, coastal infrastructure, biodiversity, safety and services, environmental education and noise pollution.
