A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Tropical Storm Nicholas and low pressure zone affect several states

The rains of the last few days have caused damages of varying degrees in various entities of the country

  • Impacts are registered in the west, center, east, south and southeast of the country

The rains of the last hours, generated by the passage of the tropical storm Nicholas , in the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the low pressure area with cyclonic potential, which develops south of Michoacán, have affected the west, center, east, south and southeast of the country.

We recommend: Nicholas increases the force of his winds before making landfall in Texas

Chiapas

In Chiapas, the landslide of a hillside buried six homes in the Cantón Chiquihuite community, municipality of Unión Juárez, in the lower part of the Tacana volcano. Two people were trapped between tons of dirt and rock, only one of them was rescued alive .

"One person was successfully rescued, and the other person who is 20 years old died, a young man, 20 years old," said Gilberto Reyes, Secretary of Civil Protection in Unión Juárez.

In addition, another 17 mudslides were reported in different regions of Chiapas and the death of a minor in Pijijiapan, who was washed away by the current of a river and at least 400 houses were affected.

Oaxaca

In Oaxaca, at least 17 municipalities, most of the Istmo de Tehuantepec region, report damage due to the rains.

"This is how the situation is in San Dionisio del Mar, we are helping a neighbor, our sister Lourdes and look, the water has already got inside," said one of those affected.

Although the rivers have not overflowed, the large amount of rain that fell caused flooding and damage for thousands of families.

So far 10 temporary shelters have been set up.

The swell phenomenon also maintains the alert on the Oaxacan coast.

"We will have waves of 7 to 9 feet in height, the meteorological bulletin issued by the Harbor Master has already foreseen this," warned José Antonio Ramírez, coordinator of Puerto Escondido Civil Protection.

The water invaded some areas of palapas and restaurants in Zipolite, Mazunte and Puerto Escondido, so all ports were closed to navigation.

Colima

The coast of Colima also reports high waves.

"We are present all day and tomorrow the levels may increase, either to 80 or even 100 percent," said Roberto Campuzano López, director of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit Tecomán.

There is an alert for residents of Tecomán and Manzanillo, due to the presence of rain, wind and electrical activity.

Veracruz

While, in Veracruz, this Monday the rains continued in much of the state, after the passage of Nicholas.

Some rapid response rivers overflowed in the last hours causing damage.

“In the Tuxtlas region, the rains have already caused some problems in the lower part. So the situation in Papaloapan could continue to have some complicated situations ”, emphasized Federico Acevedo, head of Meteorology for Civil Protection.

There is an alert for storms and rainfall that develop in the mountain and southern regions of the state.

Tamaulipas

The National Water Commission issued an alert for the passage of Tropical Storm Nicholas off the coast of Tamaulipas.

Heavy rains were forecast in the municipalities of Matamoros, Reynosa, Ciudad Victoria and San Fernando, among others.

Tropical Storm Nicholas caused 5-meter waves and rough seas.

Fortunately, the meteor did not cause damage or flooding, the rains only caused flooding.

“The tropical storm passed by and then it hits Texas late at night. The wind has been very light, ”said Pedro Granados Ramírez, general coordinator of Civil Protection in Tamaulipas.

At 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Nicholas was already off the coast of Texas, in the United States.
