A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

In addition to Zipolite in Oaxaca, on these beaches you can shed your clothes without complexes. In these rustic atmospheres, where nature dominates, no one will judge you.

Maruata, Michoacan

The beautiful unspoilt beach of Maruata, protected by amazing cliffs and the Finger of God , a rock formation that is now famous, began to be known by the Rainbow Caravan, a kind of hippie commune that lived in mobile homes. In 1995, its members came to this lonely corner of the Mexican Pacific, to set up camp and participate in an event for peace, in which, among other activities, they held a ceremony of gratitude to Mother Earth.

This is how, broadly speaking, national and foreign travelers began to arrive to camp. Afterwards, rustic arches and cabins were built to receive visitors, fascinated by its solitary atmosphere and pure nature, with lagoons, mountains and overwhelming vegetation.

Maruata is for lovers of ecotourism and tranquility. Even in one of its three bays, nudism is tolerated, so no one bothers if you decide to shed your bathing suit.

Palmitas Beach, Guerrero

This beach has the grace of being hidden, surrounded by abundant vegetation. It is located on the Isla de la Roqueta and can only be reached by boat leaving from Caleta and Caletilla.

It is not officially promoted as a nude beach but being remote, many tourists tan naked without any problem.

How to get there: On the beach of Caleta and Caletilla there are boats that take you to Isla de la Roqueta for about 100 pesos (round trip), approximately. There are also private tours that can take you to this little corner.

Zipolite, Oaxaca

It is the best known nudist beach in our country. With 2 kilometers to walk in the sand without anyone bothering you, it is the only authorized for nudism in Mexico.

You will find a variety of bars and restaurants on the beach and on the main avenue, other rustic, romantic and charming hotels (some of them dedicated to yoga and meditation.
