A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

   Ten people drowned in Oaxaca Home / City 8:45 April 02, 2021 Oscar Garcia | Quadratin Oaxaca OAXACA, Oax. March 30, 2021.- The State Coordination of Civil Protection of Oaxaca (Cepco) reported that 10 people have drowned in the Easter holiday season. On March 23, in a dam in the municipality of Santa Ana del Valle, Tlacolula de Matamoros, a 42-year-old father and his three children, 12, 13 and 16 years old, drowned when one of the minors had problems getting out of the water and in the attempt to save it they lost their lives. On the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, two people drowned, one of them a minor who fell into an irrigation canal in Juchitán. Also in the Sierra, one person died in the Camarón dam, Yautepec. On March 29, five minors went swimming at the El Chapulín dam in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, where two of them lost their lives and elements of the Fire Department came to rescue the bodies.  This Wednesday, March 31, an individual died in the sea in front of Zipolite beach, who was identified as Ricardo Michelle who was originally from Los Angeles, California. Before the arrival of tourists to the beaches of Oaxaca, in recent days they saved the life of a German surfer on La Punta beach in Puerto Escondido, and a woman from Mexico City in Zicatela. Civil Protection authorities called for extreme precautions in this hot and holiday season to avoid this type of situation that puts people's lives at risk.
