A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

A dozen small businesses, installed on the shore of Roca Blanca beach, in the coastal municipality of Villa de Tututepec, were flooded due to the high storm surge caused by the cold front 47, on the Coast and Gulf of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca.

At another point, lifeguards from the state firefighters rescued alive a group of three Spanish citizens who were about to be swept away by the current on Agua Blanca beach, municipality of Santa María Tonameca, who entered the sea, despite the high surf.

Manuel Maza Sánchez, director of that institution, mentioned that the tourists did not comply with the instruction not to reach the dangerous swell area , "so they were suddenly swept away by the current." After the successful rescue, the paramedics gave them care for nervous breakdown.

On the other hand, a 23-year-old girl from Mexico City was rescued alive after being swept away by the high waves on Zicatela beach, in Puerto Escondido.

The State Protection Coordination of Oaxaca (Cepco) intensified the preventive protocols for these cases, which includes notices to the civilian population in electronic media and social networks, to refrain from swimming, after noon, as well as in the sea area. open.

Local tourism authorities report close to 60 percent occupancy at beach destinations.

It is worth mentioning that this week an American drowned on Zipolite beach, in San Pedro Pochutla when deciding to bathe in the open sea area.
