A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Hi Again!
If you've thought about visiting Mexico City, you've no doubt been faced with the question, "Is it safe?"
This is perhaps the most asked question on my blog - by total strangers and by my closest friends. It’s the one people want to ask when they are thinking about visiting Mexico City.
It’s also the question that riles me up the most. It’s one that even divides Mexicans around the country.
For me, the answer is a definitive YES. It is safe to travel to Mexico City just as it is safe to travel to London or Tokyo or New York City.
In fact, I’ve been to all three of those cities and I often feel just as safe, if not safer here in Mexico City as I have in those places. Even at night.
I have written a blog post to answer this question in detail which you can find here:
I have also had an open discussion about safety in Mexico City on my Youtube Channel. If you’re concerned about safety, I recommend having a watch of that video and then scrolling through the comments at what other visitors to the city have said about their experience. You can find that video here:
I hope these help to sufficiently put your fears at bay and allow you to see that Mexico City is a metropolis that deserves tourism and exploration. It’s a wonderful placed filled with incredibly kind people.
Until next time,
Laura
