A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

The intrepid journey from Pochutla to Oaxaca by bus or van
Hello there!
I'm trying to figure out my travel from the Mazunte/Zipolite area to Oaxaca City. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the buses that run from Pochutla? Some friends recommended I book an ADO bus because it's far more pleasant than traveling by van. It's a very long journey though (9 hours), which is a little off-putting...
A couple of questions:
1) Has anyone taken the ADO overnight? Sleeping seems like a good way to pass the time. Is that crazy? Is it better to do the journey during the day for the amazing view or any other reasons? I would love some first hand advice!
2) What is the difference between the ADO bus and the vans I've been hearing about? All I know is that the trips are shorter by a few hours. Is this true?
3) Does anyone have any info about said vans - companies, experience, etc - as I haven't had much luck finding it online?
Thank you so much!

Have you tried Aerotucan? Looks like they have flights every day from PE to Oaxaca. It's a fun flight.
