A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

New airline routes, new bus routes and a new hotel brand are among travel stories this week in Mexico.
The Canadian airline WestJet will begin service between Toronto and the cities of Huatulco in Oaxaca, Mérida in Yucatán and San José del Cabo in Baja California Sur during the winter of 2015-2016.
The Huatulco flights will begin operating December 13 and run twice a week, the weekly Mérida flights begin December 15 and San José flights will operate twice a week, also beginning December 15.
The airline has also announced a new Calgary-Huatulco connection; it will begin December 12 and operate twice a week.
Closer to the ground, Greyhound, the largest inter-city bus service in the United States, has become the first such company to begin offering domestic service in Mexico.
It is operating in the north of the country, connecting Monterrey, Nuevo León, with Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, with 13 departures a day. Another 10 departures daily will link Monterrey with stops in Texas on a Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo-Laredo-San Antonio-Austin-Dallas route.
The bus company has new terminals in both Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo, offering free WiFi and charging stations for electronic devices. New buses offer three-point seat belts, free WiFi, power outlets, leather seats, guaranteed seating and extra leg room.
In hotel news, Conrad Hotels & Resorts will open its first hotel in Mexico next year, a 135-room luxury property in San Luis Potosí. Conrad is owned by Hilton Worldwide, which opened a Hilton hotel in the same city in April.
The nine-story Conrad hotel is scheduled to open next year, and will be located near the city’s convention center.
