A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

AHHHHHHHHHHH
Another short drive, and a rather uninteresting one at that brought us to Acamaya resort on the Caribbean side of Mexico. We are a bit west of Cancun at a delightful little resort squashed between these giant ‘all inclusive’ resorts. We will probably stay here for a few days to rest up before we do the final push to Zipolite. We still have some important ruins to visit, some familiar others less so. There is also a place Robert wants to stop at to go special swimming and in Huatulco he wants to go scuba diving and then Zipolite. We are little behind schedule but it really does not matter. I went for a walk on the beach today and was interested at the people who would prefer these ‘all inclusive’ resorts and realized that they were definite N.O.K.D. (not our kind dear). Our friend Pearl went to one called Dreams in Huatulco last year (and there is a huge one next door here) and all I could see was that she was a ‘prisoner in her own vacation’. It reminded me very much that wonderful old English science fictions series called “The Prisoner” with Patrick McKnee. But where we are is perfect for us. Tomorrow we will be going into the little town down the road for laundry and those chores that just have get done. With luck, if I am not too lazy, there will be pictures tomorrow. In the meantime sleep tight, Robert is on the way to bed, after all it is seven o’clock at night and tomorrow is another day.
