“Ágatha” loses strength and becomes a category 1 hurricane
The National Civil Protection Coordination reported through Twitter that Hurricane Ágatha lost strength over Oaxaca and fell to category 1.
According to El Universal , the agency reported that the cyclone is located 25 kilometers north-northeast of Puerto Ángel , with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h, and detailed that Ágatha is moving northeast at 13 km/h.
The torrential rains and hurricane winds that accompany Ágatha shook the palm trees and forced tourists and residents to shelter in shelters in a sparsely populated region, except for a handful of small beach communities, El Universal details .
For its part, the State Civil Protection Coordination of Oaxaca showed images of families entering a shelter in Pochutla , and of a landslide and stones that blocked the road between the town and the state capital.
Ágatha , details the newspaper, made landfall about 10 kilometers west of Puerto Ángel as a category 2 storm , with maximum sustained winds of 165 km/h. But it quickly began to lose strength as it entered the mainland.
By Monday afternoon, its maximum sustained winds fell to 130 km/h, while it was moving northeast at 13 km/h, a path that will take the meteor to the Gulf of Mexico , where its remnants could reorganize.
Near Puerto Ángel , gusts of wind, heavy rains and intense waves began to hit the beach community of Zipolite , which is known for its nudist beaches and its bohemian atmosphere, describes El Universal .
On the other hand, federal emergency officials announced the creation of a task force made up of more than 9,300 people from the area and more than 200 shelters were installed, while meteorologists warned of dangerous storm surges and floods due to strong rains.
