Hola my Mexico-loving friends! Welcome back to the monthly Mexico updates! September is when I start thinking about when my next trip to Mexico is going to be. I have visited places like San Jose del Cabo and Mexico City in September, but there is always a risk of hurricanes along the coast still at this time of year (and earthquakes if you believe the hype - of which I have felt several myself in the month of September in Mexico!). It's a good month to start planning some end-of-year or early New Year travels to the country if you haven't gotten around to it already. Don't wait much longer if you still want to snag a good hotel in some of the busier tourist spots! Mexico Updates from Around the Web ​Guadalajara had a huge storm over the weekend and is still working to clean up the mess that was left behind. Downed trees and power lines are two of the biggest issues that remain. More rain is on the way, so it may still be a while before things are back to normal. A hurricane about 900 miles southwest of Baja is getting stronger, and although it appears to be heading further west, swells and dangerous rips are being reported along the coast there. Take extreme caution as always in the waters of Los Cabos, but especially right now. These storms cause sudden surges in the water level and recently left people stranded on Lover's Beach, requiring rescue from lifeguards. ​The Peso is at a high against the dollar at the moment, and it feels almost out of nowhere. While many economists thought we'd be heading into the high season at 21 Pesos to the Dollar, it's currently at 17 Pesos to the Dollar. Mexican Independence Day is coming up this month. If you're in Los Cabos for the celebrations, check out this listing of all of the activities that will be taking place. If you were in La Paz this summer experiencing the blackouts, you'll be glad to hear that the national electric company, CFE, is working to notify residents in advance so that you can better prepare for the outages. Residents and visitors to Merida are also experiencing blackouts, with businesses forced to close in the downtown area, unable to process electronic payments. This is the third time this has happened in less than two months. Visiting Mexico Soon?
