A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

Santa Fe has been selected as the first location, which opens next week
Mexico News Daily | Thursday, October 15, 2015
Santa Fe, Mexico City, will be the first location for a new entry in the fast-food market in Mexico, when Dunkin’ Donuts opens its doors.
The U.S.-based chain announced plans in January to open 100 outlets in Mexico over the next few years, naming the Federal District, Hidalgo, State of México, Morelos, Jalisco and Querétaro as states on which it would focus.
Company president Paul Twohig said the move is in response to what the firm sees as a significant demand for its products: high-quality food and beverages at a good price.
It has signed an agreement with the Mexican subsidiary of Sizzling Platter, which operates Little Caesars pizza restaurants in Mexico City and Guadalajara.
Dunkin’ Donuts will be competing against Krispy Kreme, another U.S. chain, which is already well established in Mexico with 129 outlets, and several businesses that specialize in coffee.
Starbucks leads that sector with at least 40% market share and 500 restaurants.
The Santa Fe restaurant opens next Wednesday.

Surge in gang slayings as cartels vie for port
Three are believed to be fighting for control of Manzanillo
Mexico News Daily | Wednesday, October 14, 2015
The body count is rising in Colima as three criminal gangs fight for control of Manzanillo, a Pacific-coast port that is a crucial stopover on trafficking routes for drugs and other contraband, according to the military.
For several months the Sinaloa Cartel, the Caballeros Templarios and the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel have been waging war on one another for control of the state and — most importantly of all — its key port, according to army spokesman Commander Francisco Ortiz Valdez.
Around 30 people are thought to have died in gangland killings across Colima between June and September, and many of the victims’ bodies were found bearing signs of torture and in some cases dismemberment.
Evidence of Manzanillo’s importance for trafficking in contraband is in the number of seizures of various goods by authorities. Between 2005 and 2014 there were 2,778 such seizures by the army and police of illegal cargos containing drugs such as crystal meth and methamphetamine, timber, money and mineral ore, while the Attorney General has said that this year alone around 270 kilograms of cocaine from Colombia and Peru have been seized.
Other gangs involved in the bloody turf war in Colima since 2010 include La Resistencia, Milenio and now extinct Colima cartels.
However, Ortiz Valdez was confident that despite the scale of organized criminal activity, measures taken by the authorities had delivered positive results in the region and would continue to do so. “Something abnormal has happened in Manzanillo,” he said. “We have faith that changes in the municipal government have led to changes in policing and that efficiency can improve.”
State officials believe there were links between the previous municipal government and at least one of the cartels.
Colima’s strategic importance is twofold: firstly because of its position on the Pacific coast and its access to foreign countries, and secondly due to its location between Michoachán and Jalisco, both considered major states for the movement of illegal drug consignments within Mexico.
As such, the gangland war in Manzanillo has a global dimension to it, and the rewards for the winning cartel are potentially great.
Last year, naval units deployed by the federal government intercepted 268,000 tonnes of iron bound for China that had been illegally mined by the Caballeros Templarios, while in 2009 federal authorities found two containers filled with bags of cash worth US $11 million bound for Colombia.
An agent who worked that case said it was one of the most impressive cash hauls he had seen in 30 years and that it bore the hallmarks of a Mafia payment.
The Sinaloa Cartel is thought to b

Some photos of my little angels asleep this morning, Ileana posing at home in her princess pajamas and in her classroom with her teacher and teacher's daughter, one of Daddy and her, and another of Acalli helping paint Mom's kitchen!
Me in the hammock. A rare but treasured moment. (Don't get too thrilled, unfortunately I was just posing for the photo)

The New Airline Seats from Hell
October 8, 2015 4:15 pm by Ashley Rossi
Airbus, the ubiquitous provider of airplanes to major airlines worldwide, has filed a few new patents lately. And suffice to say, I am less than on board (excuse the pun) with what they've come up with.
Keep in mind that hundreds of patents are filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office yearly by airlines, so it's unlikely these exact torturous configurations will ever come to fruition. But still—how did anyone ever think this was a good idea?
The mezzanine proposal, as it's being called, would allow for passengers to essentially be stacked on top of each other, replacing overhead bins. (Just pause for a second and think about that. I mean, really.)
The upper level seats would be set above the middle rows and would have the ability to recline. A nice detail. Of course, you need to take a ladder to reach them, so maybe not that nice.
It seems though that when situated upright, the upper level passenger's feet would be obstructing his or her seatmate below. The bunk bed-style seating just seems like a strange version of summer camp, complete with food crumbs and drink spillage from up above.
Apparently this would be intended for business-class sections, since it allows for lie-flat seating. It's as if the airlines weren't happy with simply ruining coach class, so now they want to make business class unbearable too.
Now onto the sleeping boxes. This one gives you more privacy, and offers the side benefit of being a claustrophobic's nightmare. The boxes would be stacked on top of each other in the rear of the plane and would be offered instead of—not in addition to—an economy seat.
This option would give coach passengers a way to lie down, but I know I wouldn't exactly want to feel like I was stuck in a coffin for an eight-hour flight. As if flying weren't nerve-wracking enough already.
The pods would be outfitted with a reading light and in-flight entertainment system, which is a nice bonus, and passengers would still receive meals (but not this kind of meal).

Airbus advocated in its filing that these patents could be applied to other forms of transportation, like buses and trains. Despite the obvious safety concerns, the ideas will only be developed if the manufacturer thinks it can make money from them—and given its response thus far, it's looking like these ideas will be a no-go.
