The deep sea affects the coasts of Oaxaca and Colima; intense waves are registered
In Colima and Oaxaca the waves exceed five meters in height and strong drag currents are caused by the phenomenon of the deep sea off Mexican coasts.
The phenomenon of the sea in the background began to appear strongly from the morning of this Monday, September 13, 2021, which caused the waves to reach the area of palapas and shelter for boats on beaches such as Zipolite and Mazunte, and in different areas of Puerto Escondido.

"We will have waves of seven to nine feet in height, the meteorological bulletin issued by the Harbor Master has already foreseen it, this is affecting some boats that are near the beach, since the water reaches their boats and they have to dislodge them from the beach, ”said José Antonio Ramírez, coordinator of Puerto Escondido Civil Protection.
According to Civil Protection, the waves and tidal waves intensified due to the presence of a low pressure with cyclonic potential that moves through the waters of the Pacific Ocean.
In Zipolite, the sea left and entered this beach restaurant, where it reached chairs, tables, and lounge chairs, without the situation getting worse.
The same happened in the Main Bay of Puerto Escondido, where the waves reached the restaurant area.
Fishermen and nautical service providers had to remove their boats from the sea and put them safely on the sand, to avoid damage.
"We verify that the bad times are approaching and with time we take out our boats, and yes, right now the sea is in the background, the swell is now high and we must be very careful," said José Luis Moncada, a fisherman from Puerto Escondido.
"The swell takes about three days at best, supposedly today was going to be the biggest day, Monday," said Wilmer, a provider of Nautical Services.
Due to the intense swells, the ports of Huatulco, Puerto Ángel and Puerto Escondido were closed to navigation.
Waves are registered that exceed 5 meters in height
Waves that exceed 5 meters in height and strong drag currents, is what originates the phenomenon of the deep sea on the coasts of the State of Colima.
The maritime phenomenon has been present since last September 10 and reached its peak this Monday off the coast of Colima.
"It is increasing, as of yesterday evening, the waves have already increased, they are a little higher, more continuous," said Roberto Campuzano López, director of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit Tecomán.
In addition to these conditions, there are moderate to heavy rains due to the cloudiness that generates a low pressure zone that circulates along the coasts of the states of Guerrero, Michoacán and Colima.
They are rains accompanied by gusts of wind and electrical activity.
The fishermen took precautions, guarded their boats and pulled their gillnets out of the sea.
"No, because right now we already take forecasts, we take our gillnets out ... the waves are stronger than yesterday, meaning that the bottom swell has grown now," said Aristeo Andrade, fisherman.
The Civil Protection units of the three coastal municipalities are alerting the population living in front of the coasts, as effects are expected due to high waves and also due to rains.
In the municipalities of Tecomán and Manzanillo the risk is due to floods.
"If from today we have a presence all day and tomorrow the levels may increase, either to 80 or up to 100 percent at any given time," explained Roberto Campuzano López, director of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit Tecoman.
Authorities warn that the most intense rainfall will occur during the early hours of this Tuesday.
At sea, the swell will remain high for at least 48 more hours.
