A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Safe Christmas 2020 operation starts in Oaxaca beaches to stop COVID-19 infections

SAN PEDRO POCHUTLA, Oaxaca.- Faced with the double challenge of keeping visitors safe, and at the same time, monitoring compliance with sanitary measures in establishments, areas with the highest influx and beaches to avoid a rebound in COVID-19 cases, this weekend week security corporations and authorities of San Pedro Pochutla started the holiday operation Safe Christmas 2020.

In a coordinated action that has the participation of corporations such as the Army, Navy, National Guard, municipal, road, state and tourist police, the State Attorney General's Office, municipal Health areas, Civil Protection, Tourism and fire rescuers "El Pochutleco ”, Since last Saturday a Mixed Operation Base was permanently installed that will carry out surveillance and persuasion tours for walkers on federal highways 175 and 200, Puerto Ángel and Zipolite beaches, in addition to maintaining strict observance of the sanitary measures imposed before the coronavirus contingency.

Comply with sanitary measures, priority

During the start of the winter holiday period, which this time runs from December 19 to January 3, local authorities highlighted the importance of tourists responsibly abiding by the protocols imposed for the containment of contagions, as well as the authorized capacity of the 60 percent in restaurants, hotels and other establishments in the areas with the highest tourist influx, based on the introduction of the yellow epidemiological traffic light, which will prevail during these dates.

“We cannot neglect health protocols to have a safe Christmas. With a yellow traffic light we can have a 60 percent capacity in hotels and restaurants. Although now we do not have active COVID cases or occupied beds in the hospital, we invite tourists to use face masks and antibacterial gel in crowded places, in addition to keeping a healthy distance, "said Mayor Saymi Pineda Velasco.

Influence can reach 70 percent

The mayor announced that along with the vigilance of police corporations, a group of health supervisors will maintain close and constant attention in establishments that provide direct attention to clients, although she pondered that service providers have already been trained and must assume their commitment to take care of the health of walkers and their own collaborators, so they should not exceed the authorized capacity or stop applying health measures.

According to the municipal Tourism area, the tourist influx could reach up to 70 percent in the main destinations -Puerto Ángel and Zipolite- during the following days, mainly at the end of the year, and a slightly more measured amount in more remote beaches such as Salchi, Zapotengo, Tembo and Cuatunalco, places where there will also be security tours.

Assets, security modules

During the holiday period, a security module will be established in the cruise where federal highways 200 and 175 connect, as well as a mobile office of the State Attorney General's Office in Zipolite beach for immediate attention to complaints of any illegal and since in the In recent weeks, robberies of tourists and an alleged sexual assault have been reported.

Authorities stressed that an operation for motorcyclists will be launched due to the large number of accidents that have been registered in the area due to lack of expertise, drunk drivers and lack of helmet.
