A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Cozy room w/private pool overlooking Bahía Camarón Santa María Tonameca, Oaxaca, Mexico

Cozy room w/private pool overlooking Bahía Camarón

About this listing

This cozy hideaway could be one of our most popular rooms. Step out the patio doors to your own garden where you can enjoy the ocean view from the private pool. This, our smallest room, has a queen bed, nice tiled bath, and lots of charm.
Description
The space
This intimate guest house has five comfortable ocean view rooms along with pool and gardens. Here there are inviting public spaces when you care to socialize with other guests and also private patios when you want time to relax by yourself.
Guest access
To make our public spaces more inviting we have added a salt water pool, patios, and garden on the main level, right off the living room. Here you can relax in your lounge chair, sit in the shade of the palapa, or take in the view of Roca Blanca as you cool off in the pool. Make friends as you enjoy a beer or glass of wine.
The neighborhood
We are located on Bahía Camarón and just 300 meters from famous Playa Zipolite. Our neighborhood is home to a number of popular guesthouses. The location is close enough for you to enjoy all that Zipolite has to offer but just far enough away to surround you in a lush, tranquil setting. Our hillside terrain allows for great views as well as privacy. This also means that there are many stairs which could present a problem for those who have problems with mobility.
Other things to note
Zipolite is a rustic, free-spirited, authentic Mexican beach town. It is not a polished resort area. Don’t expect gift shops, golf courses, and fashionable bars filled with holiday revelers. This part of the Oaxaca coast attracts a wonderful mix of people; surfers, aging hippies, nudists, young and old. Many come from Europe, Australia and all over North America year after year attracted by the relaxed culture, warm climate, good restaurants, and modest prices. This may not be be right for all travelers but for many it is absolutely perfect.

8 Tips for Flying in Winter Weather

George Hobica, December 13, 2016
Winter is upon us, and in fact it seems like it's arrived early. That means flight delays and cancelations. Here are some tips to make your air travel easier when the flurries start flying:
1. If you must connect, do so via a warmer weather airport such as Phoenix or Dallas rather than Newark or Chicago. And if you've already booked, be proactive and see if you can change your connection through an airport less likely to get snowed in. Get ahead of the storm.
2. If your flight is severely delayed and no longer want to make the trip, or your flight has been canceled, you can ask for a full refund. Airlines often allow you to change your flight to when the weather clears, though if you're so delayed that there’s no point going, get a full refund instead.
3. Arrive at the airport super early. If your flight is affected, there’s a better chance you might get on an earlier flight or a different connection (if connecting).

4. Track your flight on Flightaware.com. I find their flight tracking and alerts more reliable than the airlines’ data.
5. Severe weather events are the best times to pay for a one-day airline lounge pass. It’s more pleasant to wait, and the rebooking lines are shorter than in the terminals.
6. If you didn’t buy travel insurance, check your credit card. People don’t realize it, but many credit cards, especially those issued by Chase and Citi, offer free compensation for weather delays and cancellations—they will cover hotel expenses up to the maximum allowed and any non-refundable hotel and other reservations. More on that here.
7. Although the first flights of the day mean you have to wake up super early, and they tend to operate with fewer delays, there's no guarantee that early flights won't be snowed in as often as later ones.
8. Sometimes it pays to combine transport modes. If Boston or New York are snowed in and Washington isn't, maybe take Amtrak south and leave from there.
