A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

They determine in Huatulco to continue at an orange traffic light due to COVID-19

By Guadalupe Espinoza

Oaxaca, Oax.- The municipal authority of Santa María Huatulco determined to keep the epidemiological risk traffic light in orange, until next September 20 of the current year.

Through a statement, the municipality announced that the agreements established in the Municipal Gazette number 62 will remain in force, allowing the operation of the provision of services and sale of essential goods products.

Therefore, meetings, coexistence and celebrations that involve the agglomeration of people are still prohibited.

"Congregations should be avoided for the celebration of national holidays, since it can be a focus for massive contagion and it is necessary to cut the contagion line for the municipality to continue with the process of economic reactivation," says the document.

Likewise, citizens are exhorted to follow the necessary sanitary measures at all times, such as the mandatory use of a mask, the label sneeze, the constant disinfection of hands, a healthy distance and, as far as possible, avoid mobility and stay at home.

According to data from the Oaxaca Health Services (SSO), during the last hours in the municipality of Santa María Huatulco, 1,571 confirmed cases, 69 deaths and 66 cases of active Covid-19 patients were counted.

San Pedro Pochutla, Oax.- The Oaxaca Coast has different beach resorts, sites that are so important and internationally famous that they have two international airports, such is the case of Puerto Escondido and Bahías de Huatulco.

As a very important and strategically located intermediate point is the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, which also offers a variety of beautiful beaches that, due to their beauty, are a great attraction for visitors. However, some of these beaches are not so well known.

As we well know, among the most popular are Zipolite and Puerto Ángel, but there are many more of singular beauty and about these, below we share some details for which they are well worth visiting.

A well deserved rest in Playa de Estacahuite

Of course, on the trip to the beaches of the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, it is mandatory to visit the beaches of Puerto Ángel and Zipolite (this by the way is an internationally known nudist beach). Both places have a range of tourist services that include accommodation, restaurants and bars, very pleasant and where you will live unforgettable moments with whoever accompanies you on your trip.

It is located in Zipolite, here you can rent a boat, as well as you can practice snorkeling and diving. This beach has golden sand, calm waves and crystal clear waters.

Estacahuite Beach

It is located a little before arriving at Puerto Ángel, you can arrive by land or also by sea. It has tourist services, highlighting the Casa Bichu hotel, which is very elegant and where there is also a restaurant with international cuisine, as well as lunches that will conquer your palate.

This beach is divided into three parts by two groups of rocks and is approximately 100 meters long by 30 wide. It has a moderate slope and its sand is golden with medium grain; the water is warm and crystalline, with green and blue tones.

Municipal authorities recommend being careful with coral reefs, as well as the entire ecosystem and the environment in general. In Estacachuite, snorkeling becomes a magical experience that you will carry on your mind for the rest of your life.

La Boquilla Beach

Another wonderful little-known beach is: La Boquilla, 120 meters long; It is distinguished by its golden sand, its medium grain and an intense slope. It has warm, blue-green waters and shallow depths, excellent for swimming and freediving.

Despite the fact that "La Boquilla" is a beach of great peace and tranquility, we recommend that children are always very well supervised by an adult, so that in this way we return to our destinations, safe and sound, having lived a stay on the beaches of Pochutla, as you have never enjoyed the sea and nature before.

Tembo Bay

Tembo Bay

Another wonderful place to enjoy the sea of Pochutla is nothing more than the "Tembo" Bay, which is located in a protected area but has access to the public, of course with all the recommendations to raise awareness of its care.

It is located between Bahías de Huatulco and San Pedro Pochutla, and access indicators can be seen on federal highway 200. It belongs to the jurisdiction of Pochutla and the locals are very attentive to ensure that nobody mistreats the flora and fauna, being themselves in charge of the security of the place.

Swimming and camping are allowed, so visitors will appreciate having attended to be in contact with nature, in a lonely bay where they will find the right environment to reflect and reinvent themselves.

Pantheon Beach

This beautiful beach is located west of the Main Bay of Puerto Ángel. Its sparkling waters invite you to swim and snorkel. As well as you can rent a boat where, if you are lucky, it is likely that you can see fish, turtles and dolphins.

One of the most recommended beaches in Oaxaca is Playa Panteón, which, due to its calm waves, is very suitable for swimming, but also very good sport fishing is achieved, as well as for diving.

Pantheon Beach

Cuatunalco Beach

This mystical beach is located about 32 kilometers from Huatulco National Park.

Its mysticism will invite you to get rid of worries and relax listening to the sound of the waves of the sea. On this beach you can spend an afternoon surrounded by nature, in addition to observing the flora and fauna, while enjoying the sun, sand and sea, also having the option of horseback riding along different trails and streams, if it is in a sunset is incredible.

Zapotengo

In addition to having a beach in the open sea, Zapotengo has an incredible lagoon where the mangrove is a great attraction. The locals offer a canoe ride gently paddling, and in turn they explain about the fauna of the place.

Its beach is relaxing due to the sound of its waves and the beautiful landscape that accentuates its beauty every afternoon with the sublime sunset that is appreciated here every day of the year.

The deep sea affects the coasts of Oaxaca and Colima; intense waves are registered

In Colima and Oaxaca the waves exceed five meters in height and strong drag currents are caused by the phenomenon of the deep sea off Mexican coasts.

The phenomenon of the sea in the background began to appear strongly from the morning of this Monday, September 13, 2021, which caused the waves to reach the area of palapas and shelter for boats on beaches such as Zipolite and Mazunte, and in different areas of Puerto Escondido.

"We will have waves of seven to nine feet in height, the meteorological bulletin issued by the Harbor Master has already foreseen it, this is affecting some boats that are near the beach, since the water reaches their boats and they have to dislodge them from the beach, ”said José Antonio Ramírez, coordinator of Puerto Escondido Civil Protection.

According to Civil Protection, the waves and tidal waves intensified due to the presence of a low pressure with cyclonic potential that moves through the waters of the Pacific Ocean.

In Zipolite, the sea left and entered this beach restaurant, where it reached chairs, tables, and lounge chairs, without the situation getting worse.

The same happened in the Main Bay of Puerto Escondido, where the waves reached the restaurant area.

Fishermen and nautical service providers had to remove their boats from the sea and put them safely on the sand, to avoid damage.

"We verify that the bad times are approaching and with time we take out our boats, and yes, right now the sea is in the background, the swell is now high and we must be very careful," said José Luis Moncada, a fisherman from Puerto Escondido.

"The swell takes about three days at best, supposedly today was going to be the biggest day, Monday," said Wilmer, a provider of Nautical Services.

Due to the intense swells, the ports of Huatulco, Puerto Ángel and Puerto Escondido were closed to navigation.

Waves are registered that exceed 5 meters in height

Waves that exceed 5 meters in height and strong drag currents, is what originates the phenomenon of the deep sea on the coasts of the State of Colima.

The maritime phenomenon has been present since last September 10 and reached its peak this Monday off the coast of Colima.

"It is increasing, as of yesterday evening, the waves have already increased, they are a little higher, more continuous," said Roberto Campuzano López, director of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit Tecomán.

In addition to these conditions, there are moderate to heavy rains due to the cloudiness that generates a low pressure zone that circulates along the coasts of the states of Guerrero, Michoacán and Colima.

They are rains accompanied by gusts of wind and electrical activity.

The fishermen took precautions, guarded their boats and pulled their gillnets out of the sea.

"No, because right now we already take forecasts, we take our gillnets out ... the waves are stronger than yesterday, meaning that the bottom swell has grown now," said Aristeo Andrade, fisherman.

The Civil Protection units of the three coastal municipalities are alerting the population living in front of the coasts, as effects are expected due to high waves and also due to rains.

In the municipalities of Tecomán and Manzanillo the risk is due to floods.

"If from today we have a presence all day and tomorrow the levels may increase, either to 80 or up to 100 percent at any given time," explained Roberto Campuzano López, director of the Municipal Civil Protection Unit Tecoman.

Authorities warn that the most intense rainfall will occur during the early hours of this Tuesday.

At sea, the swell will remain high for at least 48 more hours.
