A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

We are now in Laredo at Lake Casa Blanca (lake of the white house) State Park. Tomorrow we hit the Mexican border and make a run to get away from the border and hope to not get robbed or worse, but I am not going to think about that and that is tomorrow let me talk about today.
One of my silly observations is that the people who live here do not speak English. I was listening in on a conversation last night and did not feel like I was eaves dropping as I did not understand one word and they were not speaking Spanish. I thought that the southern drawl was thick in Louisiana last year but it is much worse in Texas.
Today the sky was absolutely clear without a cloud in the sky, but the air in Texas is dirty. It seems that you can dust something, including you glasses, blink twice and you have to do it again. It really makes appreciate the clean air of Stoney Creek. And for those of you who don’t live there, Hamilton and Stoney Creek have surprisingly clean air even compared to Toronto.
On another environmental note, they seem to have severe problems here with water. They either have too much or too little. At the moment it is too little. There are amazing flood control and general water control everywhere you look. I even saw flood scales so people can easily see how bad things are. One road announced that the road was impassable when the light was flashing. Texas seems to be a place of extremes. Along with the large churches they have the world largest pawn and porn shops.
Driving along the roads I always get upset with the dead animals at the side of the road. So far we have seen two dead armadillos and I find that particularly distressing. For some reason I feel an affinity to the little creatures.
I have already mentioned the bright skies but the temperature has finally got up to 77? and the long pants are off. I hope that tonight will not be too cold, but nights have been very cold and for me unpleasant. It is also surprising that we are now back to summer with all the trees and even the grass a bright green. The landscape has continued to be flat with a lot of scrub trees. The trees are not as large as trees in Ontario, in fact they tend to look like very large shrubs. Many are very twisted and gnarled covered in moss like growths. I was thinking that it is the kind of landscape to film a grizzly horror film in, during bad weather.
Enough blabber for today. I hope that you get this missive and if you don’t call out the search party. But then how can you send out the search party if you don’t get this. Whatever, enjoy.

PS. I forgot to tell you that we have seen a real Roadrunner and they do have that amazingly long tail. There has also been white herons and a little bunny.

Huatulco [hwa·TOOL·co], Oaxaca [wa·HAH·ca] is still relatively uncrowded and unspoiled. Its numerous small, isolated bays, or the Bahías de Huatulco and close proximity to the mountainous jungles of the Sierra Madre del Sur make it an idyllic setting. Huatulco International airport, 10 miles west of town, serves the area and has recently expanded.

Introducing Zipolite
The beautiful 1.5km stretch of pale sand called Zipolite, beginning about 2.5km west of Puerto Ángel, is fabled as southern Mexico’s perfect budget chill-out spot. It’s a place where you can do as little as you like and enjoy good food and inexpensive accommodation all in wonderfully elemental surroundings of crashing surf, pounding sun, rocky headlands and tree-covered hills. Inexpensive places to stay and eat line the beach, many still reassuringly ramshackle and wooden and with tall thatched roofs that help to create the unique Zipolite landscape. This is one of those magical places where you may find yourself postponing departure more than once.

Zipolite has a certain fame as a nudist beach; in fact total nudity is common only at the western end of the beach and in the small cove called Playa del Amor at the east end.

More about Zipolite
LYOBAN | Playa Zipolite. Welcome To The Beach Of The Dead!
Lyoban is originally a zapotecan word (LYO-BAAN).
The word refers to a holy place where the "cloud-men" arrived when they were able to achieve the higest level of spirituality. There they stayed, in the Lyo-baan for eternity. Maintaining peace and balance, day by day.
We are proud to say that we have hosted thousands of guys from all over the world. Many of them return every year. Through the years we have tried to create a great environment for our visitors. We want you to feel like you are at home.
We are convinced that we are one of the cheapest traveling options, but our first concern is to our customers. We want you to feel satisfied and safe while you are visiting us. We are always improving the quality of service and hospitality to better serve you.
We are open all year and we would prefer that you make a reservation before you arrive. This will insure that you have a room when you arrive. However reservations are not required.
We are located in the center of town next to the local church and we are well known by the local taxi services.
