A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

Rooms
Lonely Planet review
A range of excellent accommodations from thatch-roofed bungalows
just off the beach (most with double bed, fan, hot-water bathroom
and hammocked porch) to big, bright air-con rooms with ample
terraces and king-size beds, set back up the luxuriant hillside.
Decor is simple and tasteful.
One of Zipolite's best restaurants is here, as are a good pool
and spa. Daily hatha yoga sessions (M$100/300 per one/four
classes), plus Pilates and meditation, take place in a bright
yoga room.
Our independent authors have visited El Alquimista and
selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Zipolite.

Lonely Planet review
This Italian-run joint is on a friendly, personal scale and has the most character among the Roca Blanca beachfront places. The very clean wood-and-palm rooms have good beds, four-poster mosquito nets, fans, safes, ingenious water-saving showers and their own sandy little hammock areas. Best are the two larger, more expensive, beach-facing rooms.
There's a good cafe/restaurant (mains M$70 to M$140) too, with enticing seafood creations, wood-oven pizzas and two cocktails for M$50 in the evenings.
Our independent authors have visited Posada Mexico and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Zipolite.

Hurricane Simon weakens off Mexico Pacific Coast
MEXICO CITY, Oct 6 — Hurricane Simon lost steam off Mexico’s Pacific Coast yesterday and looked set to spare Baja California’s storm-ravaged resorts from another major battering.
The hurricane dropped to category one, the lowest on the five-level Saffir-Simpson scale, with top winds of 120 kilometers per hour as it swirled far from the coast, according to the US National Hurricane Centre.
The storm rapidly weakened throughout the day after reaching powerful category four strength overnight.
Simon was 545 kilometers southwest of Punta Eugenia and lose more strength before becoming a much weaker tropical depression when it reaches the Baja California peninsula later this week, well north of Los Cabos resorts.
A hurricane center tracking map shows Simon making landfall well north of the Los Cabos resorts that were pummeled last month by Hurricane Odile, which left six people dead.
The hurricane was expected to produce up to 20 centimeters of rain across central Baja California and parts of Sonora state in northwestern Mexico.
The rain could trigger flash floods and mudslides, the hurricane center said. — AFP
