Where is Huatulco ?
Huatulco (Pronounced wha-tool-co) is a tourist resort town Mexico. located in the state of Oaxaca on the Pacific coast . The name “Bahias de Huatulco” comes from the nine bays surrounding the town, but the name got shortened to Huatulco. Huatulco has many luxury hotels and villas developed recently for the growing tourism in the area so most are relatively new and still quiet during the busy periods, with many based around the Tangolunda Bay.
Where is Huatulco located ?
It is located in the state of Oaxaca at the foothills of the Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains 500 km south of Acapulco The official population is given as 50 000.
Bahias de Huatulco has four main districts. Tangolunda, which has many luxury resorts, Santa Cruz, which is a small town with a marina and Santa Cruz beach, La Crucecita which, is another small town just inland from the beach which provides support services to the main resorts in the area, and Chahué an area between Santa Cruz and Tangolunda.

The Bahias de Huatulco, (Bays of Huatulco) are made up of nine bays and numerous small coves stretching 26 kilometers along the coastline, with 36 white sandy beaches.
Where is Huatulco main town ?
The centre of commercial and tourist activities is Santa Cruz which has a large pier for the cruise ships to dock. Many activities can be had like snorkeling, deep sea fishing and jet ski for rent. Lots of weddings take place in Capilla de Santa Cruz next to the sea. the beaches at Santa Cruz are some of the best with soft white sands and turquoise blue water.
Tangolunda and Bahía Conejos are the more developed areas of Huatulco with most of the larger hotels located here. The beaches of Barra de la Cruz and Playa Mojon offer great surf waves.

West of Santa Cruz, there are less developed beaches as most of this area is protected eco environment for many species of coral and marine life.
What to do in Huatulco
There are many things to do in Huatulco during the day and night with many fabulous restaurants and some nightlife although it is quieter than the more busier resorts like cancun or puerta vallarta . During the day you can do lots of beach and sporting activities as well as fishing or you can visit a coffee plantation and take a tour at places like Finca (farm) Las Nieves or Finca Monte Carlos.There is also a main festival organised every year that highlights issues to do with the environment with lots of music and cultural events taking place.
