A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

A Tradition of Tastes – Oaxaca Prepares for National Culinary Festival, El Saber del Sabor

From September 1-11, 2011, Oaxaca will celebrate its national culinary festival, ‘El Saber del Sabor’ – A Tradition of Tastes.
“The culinary festival El Saber del Sabor: Más Allá del Mito de los Siete Moles (A Tradition of Tastes: Beyond the Myth of the Seven Moles) is a space for creation, fun and peace. Since its founding in 2009, it has become the marquee event showcasing our national cuisine.”
“The first two weeks of September have been fashioned into a call to reconsider our national holidays through the flavors of Oaxaca. Mexican identity becomes food and food becomes a new way of understanding and expressing the way of life in Mexico.”

- Surfline's late founder, Sean Collins, was honored at the 19th annual Surfing Walk of Fame on Thursday in Huntington Beach.
Emcee and former World Champion Peter "PT" Townend presented the award, stating, "Sean had a profound effect on the entire surfing world. He had a passion and lived to tell us all where the waves were good. All those amazing surf photos and movies we all watch? They're partly due to Sean Collins putting people in the right place at the right time."
The Collins family -- Darren and sons Tyler and A.J. -- were onstage to accept the award in Sean's honor. Tyler, Sean's eldest son, stepped up and said a few words: "His life spoke more powerfully than I or anyone ever could on his behalf," Tyler explained during his heartfelt speech. "Sean was an incredible father, surfer and businessman, but more importantly, a friend. He chased waves because it was his passion. But he went on to dedicate his life to giving others what he loved most."
Also recognized was the late Michael Peterson, legendary shaper Dick Brewer, Pipeline Master Mike Ho, Alisa Schwarzstein-Cairns, Local Hero George Draper and Stacy Wood.
"Michael Peterson was Australia's greatest surfer when Rabbit [Wayne Bartholomew] and I were growing up," PT remembered. Then Peterson's mother took the stage and shared a story about MP getting third in his first surf contest at age 10.
"Sean chased waves because it was his passion. But he went on to dedicate his life to giving others what he loved most."
-- Sean Collins' son Tyler
Coco Ho, straight in from a heat at the US Open, was pleased to introduce her father Michael Ho to the crowd during a special moment. And Uncle Mike went on to humbly thank everyone in Huntington who had been their for him and his family over the years and also give props to Ben Aipa, fellow inductee Dick Brewer, PT and David Nuuhiwa (all of whom were in attendance) for their pivotal roles in his career.
And once the Walk of Fame induction wrapped up, thoughts turned towards the other side of Main Street for Friday's Hall of Fame ceremony where Dane Reynolds, Rabbit Kekai and Andy Verdone will put their hands and feet in Huntington's immortal pavement. Sean Collins was inducted there back in 2008, which means after today, his legacy will always live on, especially at the nexus of Surf City USA.

Considering that the majority of people in the Huatulco vicinity do not have air conditioning;
leaving "essential" AC needs at the border, one can survive with a simple fan.

I have never used an ac for I don't how many years in Huatulco. I use window fans and if those are not available then one could use box fans. You could use this in the exhaust mode in the afternoons - sucking out all the hot air and in normal use in the evenings - bringing in the cool, fresh, unpolluted air.
BTW - I brought in all my window fans from Canada. But box fans work equally well.

Why is Huatulco always 5 degrees or so hotter that PE?
Interesting question Flacco. Before moving here I lived in Puerto Angel for many years and after Fonatur built Huatulco I used to come over here once in a while. La Crucicita felt like it was air conditioned compared to PA. And Pochutla—I suspect the devil built Pochutla to test out his design for hell.
I always figured it was because of all the grass and plants here in HUX that made it cooler. There was certainly no grass in PA. Not many plants either. A lot of rock and baked dirt.
