A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Walking tour offers tasty look at Puerto Escondido, Mexico

Oaxaca, Mexico is known as the Land of the Seven Moles after the complicated chili-based sauce that takes hours to prepare and often features chocolate. The Puerto Escondido Walking Tour offered by local foodie Gina Machorro offers a fascinating inside peek at this and other Oaxacan culinary traditions.
Pros:
  • Tour begins at the Marina where you'll chat with local fishermen and tuck into a typical breakfast of nopal cactus, tortillas and beans.
  • Then it's off through the backstreets of Puerto visiting a traditional chocolate grinder and the homes of women making tamales of maize by hand.
  • Gina guides you through Benito Juarez Market where you'll explore the indigenous stalls, learning how to identify epazotepimiento gorda and nance. The sprawling, but surprisingly orderly, market stretches an entire city block spilling out onto surrounding sidewalks. Chat with vendors and soak up the authentic  Oaxcaca atmosphere.
  • Culinary adventurers will enjoy the opportunity to samplechapulines (toasted spicy grasshoppers) and the many varieties of chocolate.
  • Learn how to use cooking utensils such as comals for heating tortillas, pottery bowls for salsa, and mortar and pestles for making guacamole.
  • A shopping bag is supplied and will be filled the brim with culinary goodies by the end of the tour.
Cons:
This is a fast-paced tour with some hill-climbing. If you need extra time when walking or have mobility issues, advise Gina in advance and she'll be happy to make special arrangements.
Details:
Time: Saturdays at 7:45 am
Location: Tourist Information Booth on el Adoquin, near Playa Principal.
Cost: 300 pesos or $24 Canadian. Includes all snacks and sampling. Book in advance in-person or by email atginainpuerto@yahoo.com.
How to get there: Sunquest Vacations flies direct to Huatulco from Toronto. From there, it's one hour and 45 minutes by bus or taxi to Puerto Escondido. Sunquest offers an all-inclusive option in Puerto Escondido that includes transfers from Huatulco. Try some nopal for breakfast

Good

Visited on: Jan 2012
Age Range: -
Warm Consistent Weather. Small town atmosphere. Kind and hospitable staff. Food was very good, very "Canadianized". Plenty of activities and a very safe feeling. Good Snorkeling right in front of the hotel and off to the side. Feeding the fish daily. Ocean climbing toys for older children. Waves were mostly calm in front of hotel, take taxi for better boarding beaches. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Puerto Escondido HELP!!

Hey guys,
I'm heading to puerto Escondido in the middle of march and I'm wondering what to expect/ be prepared for. I'm use to fishing Cabo this time of year but have never been down this far. I will be taking out boats as well as fishing from the surf. Bringing my own surf gear and limited off-shore stuff, rod tube must be <6.25'
Questions: 1.) what species frequent the area that time of year, both surf and off-shore.
2.) what are some must have surf tossing lures?

3.) general insight on where to go and how
To approach the surf, this is my biggest interest. I fish a lot of tuna out of sd and I only get to do this surf thing once a year.. It's freaking fun!!

Thanks,
Denny

Perfect Wedding Destination

January 31, 2012
The hotel is very well laid out. Tons of pools and lounge areas so can change up locations each day. Beach is beautiful. Staff are absolutley wonderful. Poolside service was excellent. Food was good, lots of choices.
We were married 05 December, 2011 and were so pleased with the service Nancy and Gabriela (wedding coordinators) provided to us. They and the hotel went above and beyond our expectations. Every details was looked after, not a thing left for us to worry about. Highly recommend this resort and is a great wedding destination as well.
Pros: Free breakfastClose restaurantsFree InternetQuietwedding servicegreat beach
I would recommend this to a friend!

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony (photo slideshow) HD

"Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a song by English alternative rock band The Verve, the lead track on their third album, Urban Hymns. It is based on music from an Andrew Loog Oldham adaptation of a Rolling Stones song, "The Last Time". It was released on 16 June 1997 by Hut Recordings as the first single from the album, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart. The song's momentum built slowly in the United States throughout the latter months of 1997, ultimately leading to a CD single release on 3 March 1998 by Virgin Records America, helping the song to reach number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became famous for the legal controversy surrounding plagiarism charges. It was the 79th best selling single in the United States in 1998. In the Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time, 2009 (an online music poll conducted by the Australian radio station Triple J) the track was voted the 14th best song of all time. Rolling Stone ranked "Bitter Sweet Symphony" as the 392nd best song of all time. In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Bitter Sweet Symphony" at number 18 in its list of the "50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever". In September 2007, a poll of 50 songwriters published in Q magazine placed "Bitter Sweet Symphony" in a list of the "Top 10 Greatest Tracks". Pitchfork Media included the song at number 29 on their "Top 200 Tracks of the 90s" list. In 2011, NME placed it at number 9 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".

A soulmate (or soul mate) is believed by some to be the person with whom one has a feeling of deep or natural affinity, similarity, love, sex, intimacy, sexuality, spirituality, or compatibility. A related concept is that of the twin flame or twin soul, which is thought to be the ultimate soulmate. In New Age spirituality, the ultimate soulmate is the one and only other half of one's soul.

This is for my soulmate, Jeannie Anne, who still whispers in my ear when I need her most.
