Hola my Mexico-loving friends! Welcome back to the monthly Mexico updates! This month, as always, we look at the biggest news stories around Mexico in the last 30 days as well as some changes that might affect your upcoming trip to the country. Mexico Updates from Around the Web After years of thinking about it, Chipotle has opened its first store south of the border. But will this US brand be able to survive selling Mexican food to Mexicans? Locals think not. This summer might be the worst the sargassum seaweed problem has ever been along the Caribbean coast of Mexico. While hotels and tourism agencies from Cancun down to Tulum have worked hard to try to clear the beaches, they simply can't keep up with how much seaweed is floating around out there. You can read more about it here. Hurricane season is well and truly underway, with tropical storms sending huge swells to the coast of Baja California Sur last week. The debate continues over where exactly the cyclosporiasis outbreak this summer started, Mexico's Taylor Farms continues to say that it hasn't come from their facilities. The Grand Velas hotel in Los Cabos has just launched a new package that they're calling the Babymoon Package. Head here on your babymoon for a relaxing couples retreat that includes a specialized spa treatment for mom and a detoxifying facial for her partner, a private oceanfront cabana with alcohol-free sparkling wine and an in-suite menu with nutritious snacks and superfoods. They'll even help you plan and execute a gender reveal while you're there. Mexico has created a new designation for certain cities around the country, something they are calling the Mexico Surf City Network. It will be a way for people to know that these are the best places to surf in the country and will hopefully bring a new type of tourism to these destinations. The first Surf City will be Sayulita, a busy tourist town to the north of Puerto Vallarta. Starting August 3rd, visitors arriving in Mexico from the US with pets will face stricter regulations. "The updated regulations require all dog owners crossing from the U.S. to present a GBG Inspection Certificate for the Transfer (Export) of Pet Dogs from the United States to Mexico."
