A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

5.1 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SAN PEDRO POCHUTLA IN OAXACA

The 5.1 magnitude earthquake surprised tonight the inhabitants of the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla, Oaxaca, who felt the telluric movement in various parts of the State, which did not warrant the seismic alert.
According to the National Seismological Service (SSN), the telluric movement took place at 8:09 p.m. with an epicenter 35 kilometers south of San Pedro Pochutla.
Meanwhile, the Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASSLA) detailed through its Twitter account that the earthquake was of moderate intensity in Oaxaca, so it was imperceptible to Mexico City.
According to reports, the earthquake was registered with great intensity in the municipalities of San Pedro Pochutla, Puerto Ángel, Puerto Escondido, Zipolite and Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz.
For its part, the Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX) reported in the same way that the earthquake with its epicenter in San Pedro Pochutla did not exceed the pre-established levels in the sensor near Puerto Ángel, Oaxaca, for this reason it did not warrant activation. seismic alert.
