A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

“Killer fishing trip”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 20, 2012 NEW
We hit the water and within 10 mins we'd hooked two massive Mahi Mahi. Great host, showed us the local turtle and dolphin population, and was a brilliant day all around. If only fishing was like this in Australia~!

“what a ride!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 19, 2012 NEW
we (three adults and a 3 year old) have been deepsea fishing with Omar and Osso.
it was a great morning and we directly grilled the caught tuna fish after returning to the beach. Omar and Osso were very friendly and explained us all the specials and the stories about their region and deepsea fishing in general!
also for the 3 year old, it was absoluteley no problem to get out there for approx. six hrs. we all had fun and felt very comfortable with the boatteam!
muchas gracias (para el tortuga foto)

“The best day of our holiday!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 18, 2012 NEW via mobile
Three of us travelled around Mexico for a month and we all agree that our day trip with Omar in Escondido was our best day out. We were collected from our hotel on time and brought out fishing in Omar's boat. Aswell as being very well organised, Omar's knowledge of the area and the fish are second to none. We caught 16 mahi mahi and 1 sailfish. Other boats only caught one mahi mahi the same morning. He also gave us the opportunity to swim and get our pictures taken with turtles which was brilliant. When we returned to the shoreline Omar brought us to a nearby restaurant which cooked one of the mahi mahi which was delicious. Overall I would recommend Omar's fishing trips in the highest regard. A great day out! Thanks Omar!

“An excellent expedition! Mega Mahi- Mahi Turtles Dolphins”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 17, 2012
An early morning start saw us out to sea with Omar and his crew

Our first day out didn't yield a result but a fine time was had, seeing plenty of turtles, dolphins bird life. We enjoyed our time out with Omar and his crew and decided to try our luck the next day.

Omar is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic, his crew are super efficient and on that second day boy did we reel them in!!!

Hotel pick ups, morning coffee, fishing and catching, sitting under the palapas eating your catch of the day accompanied by Coronas, spectacular scenery, wildlife and the high speed launching of the boat onto the sand all make for fantastic Holiday memories!!!

This is a must for anyone visiting Puerto Escondido

“So good, we went again two days later!”
5 of 5 starsReviewed September 12, 2012
We had an awesome time when we went fishing with Omar. The first day we went we caught a couple of dorado's (mahi mahi) and an amazing sailfish! The trip was so good we decided to go again two days later this time taking our girlfriends along to see the loads and loads of dolphins we saw on the first trip. This time we caught more dorado's and even a couple of skipjacks (small tuna)!

I would definitely recommend going fishing with Omar!

Rushing the Mexican Pipe at 10-15ft is mucho gnarlio. Just ask Rusty Long. He recently dislocated his shoulder going down hard on a bomb which you can see here at 1mins30. But despite the incredibly high risks, locals and seasoned big wave chargers like Alex Gray just can’t resist the temptation of those gaping corners.

For years agricultural consultants Brent and Kari lived to work. Now this hardwired couple wants to take it easy. With laptops and spreadsheets in tow, they're heading south of the boarder to unwind. But in the serene and unhurried resort village of Huatulco, construction is the name of the game and finding a quiet home to work from is anything but peaceful. Will they be able to relax and get with Mexico's ma?ana mantra? Find out, when House Hunters International works hard to take it slow in Huatulco, Mexico.
