A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

The city of Oaxaca is crowned Cultural Destination of the Year LGBTQ+

• The state capital was placed first in this category in the LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico 2023.

Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax. November 9, 2023.- The city of Oaxaca was awarded as Cultural Destination of the Year at the LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico 2023 of the National Union of LGBTQ+ Tourism Companies (UNET LGBTQ+).

This was announced by the Secretary of Tourism Saymi Pineda Velasco, who highlighted that dependence on thistle has among its priorities to promote inclusive tourism, with zero tolerance for discrimination, promoting strategies to strengthen the LGBTQ+ segment.

He said that last September voting was opened to the public for this UNET LGBTQ+ award ceremony; association that included in its nominations the state capital in the Cultural Destination of the Year category along with destinations such as Morelia, Michoacán; San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato; Guanajuato, Guanajuato; and Puebla, Puebla.

Pineda Velasco pointed out that through this award, the association seeks to raise awareness among the country's tourism service providers and recognize the work of companies and destinations that contribute to the construction of a tourism industry free of LGBTQ+phobia, a term that refers to the acts of intolerance, discrimination or rejection of this population sector.

“We are a land proud of its roots, recognized for its cultural heritage, historical legacy, gastronomy, natural wealth, as well as for the quality of its services, including the focus on the LGBTQ+ community,” he highlighted.

He explained that, by instruction of the Governor of the State Salomón Jara Cruz, public policies are promoted for the comprehensive and sustainable development of the entity through tourism activity with a perspective of inclusion of all sectors.

In this sense, he explained that the state Tourism Secretariat pays special attention to the training and professionalization of service providers, which is why various workshops are implemented to raise the quality of care directed to said segment.

He highlighted the workshop that has been held in destinations such as the city of Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, Bahías de Huatulco and Zipolite to obtain the Inclusive Company certificate.

The person in charge of state tourism policy stated that this distinction is an incentive to continue with the commitment to position the entity nationally and internationally as a highly competitive and quality destination.
