A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

HOW TO GET TO THE OAXACA COAST : FALL AND WINTER FLIGHT SCHEDULE 2022

Planning your sunny winter escape? Now is the right time. The Oaxaca Coast airports of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido are finalizing the fall and winter schedules. You will find all the details available now below.

You can also find some great flight sales right now. Aeromexico has dropped the price of their flights from Toronto and other destinations to various places in Mexico down to between $279 and $383 CAD roundtrip including taxes. The flights have 1 stop in Mexico City each way. These great sales are available from October through December 2022 depending on the destination. Check them out here.

 

Getting to Huatulco (HUX)

From Canada, WestJet offers flights on Fridays from Toronto, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from Calgary, on Thursdays from Edmonton, and Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from Vancouver from October 3oth through April 28th. Air Canada offers flights from Toronto on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from October 30th through March 25th.

From the U.S., American Airlines flies Wednesdays and Saturdays from Dallas beginning in December. Volaris will add a flight from Chicago and Viva may add a flight from Saint Louis on Saturdays. Both of these flights are yet to be confirmed.

From Mexico City, you’ll find about 10 daily flights into Huatulco. Aeromexico has 3 regular daily flights into Huatulco, VivaAerobus has 2 daily flights, Volaris has 4 daily flights from different Mexico City airports, MagniCharters has flights 4 times per week, Aerotucan has flights from Oaxaca (check their website for schedule), Viva has Thursday flights to Monterrey, and Volaris has Monday, Thursday and Sunday flights to Tijuana where you can take the Cross Border Express to San Diego.

 

Getting to Puerto Escondido (PXM)

Over 10 regular daily flights into Puerto Escondido from Mexico City are offered: 2 daily flights on Aeromexico, up to 5 daily flights with Volaris, 3 daily flights on VivaAerobus and additional flights on Aeromar and Magni Charters.

To get to Puerto Escondido, you can also fly direct to Huatulco and take a taxi or bus to Puerto Escondido. The Highway 200 is 4 lanes for most of the distance now shortening travel time to about 90 minutes.
