A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Flora Duffy moved one step closer to her Olympic dreams after she picked up a major international victory today [May 6], winning the 2012 Huatulco ITU Triathlon World Cup in Mexico.
She crossed the line in 2:13:17 to claim victory, with Pamela Oliveira from Brazil in second, Mexico’s Claudia Rivas in third, Russia’s Alexandra Razarenova in fourth, and Line Jensen from Denmark rounding out the top five women.
“I’m starting to tear up I’m so happy,” Ms Duffy said. “It’s been a long road to get here. Today was a hard race and a hard course, but I think that’s what I needed to make me focus and really push. It totally played to my strengths today.”
Bermuda had a strong showing overall, with Tyler Butterfield also in the field claiming a solid 4th place finish in a time of 2:03:04. Simon De Cuyper from Belgium won the event, Ryan Sissons from New Zealand was second, Danylo Sapunov from the Ukraine was third, and Columbia’s Carlos Javier Quinchara Forero placed fifth.
Ms Duffy tweeted a link to this photo, saying: “I won my first world cup today. Can you tell I’m a bit excited! Classic air punch.” Mr Butterfield was one the first to congratulate Ms Duffy on the micro blogging network, noting on Twitter that he believed today’s victory is one of many wins to come for her.
