A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

Rotary Club of Huatulco - 3rd Annual Have a Heart Event

Huatulco Life was inspired by people with a passion for Huatulco and the Mexican lifestyle. It is a place to find out more information about the region and enjoy the beauty of the Oaxacan coastline through the photo gallery. From time to time, other interesting tidbits about Mexico make their way into the pages of this blog. Enjoy!

Rotary Club of Huatulco - 3rd Annual Have a Heart Event

Saturday, February 18th 2012 will see the Rotary Club of Huatulco presenting the 3rd Annual Have a Heart/Da Tu Corazon event at the Las Brisas Resort.   This highly anticipated fundraiser generated approximately 85,000 pesos last year.

These funds, representing almost the entire annual budget, supported such worthwhile community projects as 75 cataract surgeries, the completion of a water-well for a local village, and posadas to several nearby villages during the Christmas season where toys and candies were given to the children and basic grocery items distributed to each mother.  Rotary continues to support an orphanage under the auspices of the Agape Foundation through one of our members Padre Domingo.  As well, the Rotary mobile dental chair visits outlying communities providing children with much-needed dental care.  Rotary chartered a Rotaract Club in 2011 & mentors a group of 17 high school & university students who aspire to be part of the Rotary family & do projects aimed at the youth in the community.  Plans for the development of a library for Huatulco continue to be discussed in conjunction with other organizations.

Tickets for this year’s event may be purchased from any Rotary member and are also available at Remax Real Estate’s office, the Restaurant La Veva & Sr Puck’s.  The evening promises to be entertaining and includes a welcome cocktail, delicious dinner, bingo games & a raffle for wonderful prizes donated by generous local sponsors, and dancing to a live band.  Tickets are 450 pesos per person.  For further information contact bonnieganske@yahoo.com.
Proceeds from this event support Rotary projects for the coming year.  In January or February of 2013 a Canadian contingent of Rotarians, with the assistance of the local club & the DIF plan to distribute a container load of 280 wheelchairs to the surrounding communities.  Organizations such as Nuevo Amanecer & the Red Cross will benefit from this campaign as their clients will have the opportunity to receive wheelchairs through this program.
