A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

🚨🌊ZIPOLITE BEACH CLOSED DUE TO HIGH SURGES🌊🚨 ]

🚨🌊ZIPOLITE BEACH CLOSED DUE TO HIGH SURGES🌊🚨
The group ofLifeguards Club Delfines Zipolite ACThe agency announced in a statement that due to the current swell conditions affecting the Oaxacan coast, the beach will remain closed for water activities until further notice.
The sea features high-energy waves, intense rip currents, and highly dangerous conditions for swimmers and visitors, they point out.
🌊Why is it dangerous?
Waves associated with swells can travel great distances before impacting the coast, arriving with considerable force capable of:
❌To knock down an adult.
❌To drag people out to sea in a matter of seconds.
❌Reach normally dry beach areas.
❌Generate currents that are difficult to identify even for experienced swimmers.
🚫NOT ALLOWED:
• Swimming.
• Enter the sea.
• Participate in aquatic recreational activities.
• Staying in rocky areas exposed to waves.
🏖️RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
If you have furniture, equipment or facilities near the beach:
✅Remove sun loungers and umbrellas.
✅Secure kayaks and small boats.
✅Protect advertisements, signs, and lightweight furniture.
✅Move objects away from the tide line.
✅Keep access roads clear for emergency vehicles.
🚨IF A PERSON IS SCRAPED AWAY BY THE CURRENT:
1️⃣Stay calm.
2️⃣Call 911 immediately or notify the Lifeguards.
3️⃣Visually indicate the person's location.
4️⃣DO NOT enter the water to try to rescue her.
5️⃣Follow the instructions of the trained personnel.
We remind you that many emergencies worsen when untrained people attempt to perform rescues on their own.
🙏We ask for the cooperation of the entire community, merchants, hoteliers and visitors to respect the temporary restrictions and help prevent accidents.
