A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

The letter from Gabriele, the Canadian woman murdered in Querétaro

Gabriele, the Canadian woman who died during an armed robbery on the Northeast Bypass, wrote reflections and feelings about the trip she would make from Oaxaca to Canada

The serene look, the friendly smile and her affection for pets stand out in the images that Gabriele, a 50-year-old woman, who was murdered in El Marqués, shared on Facebook early this Sunday.

ThThe tragic incident occurred during his return trip to Canada , his country of birth, from Zipolite, Oaxaca. She was accompanied by pets and a friend, who survived the attack by assailants not yet arrested.

On March 13, Gabriele published a letter in which she explains the motivations for her long trip, which, unfortunately, was cut short unexpectedly at a stop, where she and her companion stopped for food.

In the text he shares that it was time to return to Canada, since his mother required his company.

He also says that, although his eldest son had been living with his grandmother for the last three years , it was already too much responsibility for him.

A return trip

“However, I cannot leave without my pets. After hours of searching to find the easiest way to take them with me, I have decided that making the trip by car is the best option. I have already bought a large enough truck and I have sold the belongings that I could not take with me,” she says.

To meet the goal, he asked for financial support on social networks and got it. He soon had enough money to repair the truck he would use and pay expenses during the trip. In total it was 6 thousand Canadian dollars, equivalent to about 74 thousand Mexican pesos.

“It's hard for me to ask for help again. She had done it twice before in the last four years. The first was to ask for support to keep a cinema open (in Zipolite, Oaxaca) during the Covid pandemic and the second time was last year, when my son (…) suffered an accident that left him severely injured. Without the support of the people, he would not have been able to achieve it.”

With determination, he affirms that it is time to move on, despite the memory of the people, the sights and the sounds of his beloved Zipolite, which he would always keep in his heart.

“I hope to carry something from this place in my spirit to build something similar in Canada,” Gabriele also expresses in the letter.
