Zipolite closes the
doors to tourism
ZIPOLITE, Pochutla, Oaxaca.- To reduce the risk of contagion in the presence
of COVID-19 and keep the population safe in one of the poles with the
highest arrival of national and foreign visitors, inhabitants of Zipolite,
Pochutla, agreed to prevent the tourist access to the beach for the
duration of the health contingency
In an assembly held last Saturday in the center of the population, which was led by the municipal agent, Antonio García Martínez, inhabitants voted by majority for the option of maintaining a symbolic fence to the so-called Nudist Beach of Mexico to temporarily prevent the arrival tourists and thus avoid a possible spread of the disease, which in the case of Oaxaca accumulates 12 confirmed cases, while 14 suspected cases have been detected on the coast.
With a vote of 100 in favor, against 66 who disagreed, the assembly decided to close the doors to tourism, which will lead to serious damages to the local economy, based mainly on the provision of tourist services and that it had in the holiday season. of Easter a possibility of rebound.
In an interview, the municipal representative explained that this is a necessary and timely measure, which despite the consequences it will bring in terms of economic losses, is unavoidable to maintain a healthy community and requires a responsible attitude from hoteliers and other providers of services.
He explained that in order to control the entry of passers-by, a census is carried out in each of the hotels with the largest capacity - around 20 -, to know how many tourists are staying and, from this, keep the establishments under surveillance to respect the stays of who are there, but avoid the entrance of more tourists.
The agent stated that the members of the tourist police will collaborate with the surveillance of the beach, common spaces and commercial establishments to maintain order and confirm that the corresponding sanitary measures are applied, but denied that this implies that the entry or exit of people or to stop those who want to enter the area.
Antonio García explained that restaurants and grocery stores will remain open for the consumption of premises, but with the implementation of permanent hygiene measures and keeping the healthy distance proposed by health authorities.
After commenting that currently the occupation remains at an average of 10 percent, he instructed the entrepreneurs and business owners of this pole to act responsibly in the face of the pandemic and to follow the recommendations and preventive measures to contain the advance of the coronavirus.
