During the first day more than ten delegations met in Zicatela and about fifty surfers participated in 12 heat eliminatory, open category. The most numerous teams are from Guerrero and from Baja California Norte and Sur.
Francisco Palacios, secretary of the Baja California Surf Association, said that thirty percent of his athletes know the waves of Zicatela, which the new ones liked and highlighted the good conditions for professional surfing.
“We would like everything to go well, logically that one from Baja California would win; we have 23 participants, the open comes complete with 4 competitors, we also bring a long table, 5 competitors and between master and youth that arrive on November 5 ”and added that a surfer from his state will compete adapted Surfing.
For his part, Jorge Solchaga, delegate of the Association of Baja California Sur, indicated that they compete in several categories with a concentrate of 30 athletes between minors and adults, and that they filter their teams with four tournaments a year.
“At the moment we have two of our athletes in the World Cup, it is the first time that such a large concentrate from Baja Sur makes such a long trip, here to Oaxaca; the one who will be the least will be one week, there are those who are going to be the two weeks. ”
This contest, which is just beginning, concentrates the best national surfing, said Jhony Corzo from Oaxaca at the end of his heat in the first place.
"The level is strong, the best Mexicans come, no tournament is easy so you always have to give everything" and added that he has competed in 8 or 10 nationals, for his career it is significant. "This is a qualifier for the World Cup, the four finalists are the ones who qualify, prior to this there is a state event qualifier, you have to follow the rules and steps for the world championships."
The delegation of Guerreo, meanwhile, is composed of 58 athletes plus their families, so they add up to almost 80 people, said his representative Leonel Perez Yáñez. “It seems that the beginning was delayed a little because it is an unprecedented event, due to its magnitude; as the call marked it, everyone has to pay their expenses, so we organize fundraisers ”.
