A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

My attitude has improved dramatically from yesterday. Nothing a good night’s sleep and a day without driving cant cure.
There was nothing luxurious or fun abut the last few days and we feel completely lucky to have run into friends to at least break up the 3 days of driving. It’s funny how a long drive gives you an opportunity to get a bit lost in your own mind.

We were told the money ran out that was allotted, so the 3 companies building it just stopped. They ended up repaving some of the old road for now. Plans are always in the making for the next step of hiring two new companies to finish it. Just need the money from wherever they grow it.

It is paved from La C. to the airport and of course thereafter. 2 lanes.

The complete project, to Oaxaca, is promised by the governor to be completed by the end of 2014, according to a newspaper article a couple of months ago.

Hola.
In Huatulco, “mañana” does not mean “tomorrow”, it means “not today”. That said, HWY 200 will probably, most likely, perhaps, but not assuredly be finished mañana.
In any case, the paved portion between La Crucecita and the airport is quite nice and barring traffic the trip takes about 15 minutes.
Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.
Abrazos,
Matt
