A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .
Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before. Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.ivan

DF says goodbye to James Bond and crew
Business owners won't be unhappy to see them go
Mexico News Daily | Thursday, April 2, 2015
James Bond himself has already left; this week, the rest of the crew is following suit.
For two weeks Mexico City was taken over by actors and film crews shooting the next Bond film, called Spectre, which included a Day of the Dead parade and — more in keeping with a Bond flick — stunt men fighting on a helicopter as it buzzed over the city.
However, restaurants and retailers will not be sad to see the end of the shoot: they estimate that the cost to businesses was as high as 377 million pesos, or US $25 million, as a result of street closings.
A group representing small businesses says a survey found that 6,627 were affected, and sales on average were down 60%. Small Business Chamber of Commerce president Gerardo López Becerra blamed it on “bad public policy” by city officials who provided locations for filming without considering or respecting business and even religious activities.
About 100 businesses received compensation of $100-$130 a day from the production company.
Another controversy over the filming surfaced when a story revealed that the producers were getting tax cuts of as much as $20 million and that changes were made in exchange regarding casting and shooting locations, such as the selection of Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman as a “Bond girl” and that the film include a four-minute sequence shot in Mexico.
The government has made no comment, but producer Michael Wilson said Bond films always receive tax incentives.
The focus of the films is flushing out the bad guys, a fact that was taken into account by demonstrators on Saturday who showed up at the shooting with a satirical banner asking for Agent 007 to help find the missing students of Ayotzinapa.
The street closings ended yesterday in time for Easter week visitors, a holiday period that businesses are counting on to recoup the losses incurred by the Hollywood invasion.

Time changes tonight in most of Mexico
The clocks change unless you're on the northern border, in Sonora or Quintana Roo
Mexico News Daily | Saturday, April 4, 2015
The clocks change tonight in Mexico with the exception of 33 border municipalities in the north and two states.
The change to Daylight Savings Time occurs officially at 2:00am tomorrow when clocks advance by one hour.
In those northern municipalities the change took place on March 8 to coincide with time changes north of the border and not create scheduling issues for citizens who cross frequently for work or study.
The two states that remain on the same time all year are Sonora and Quintana Roo.
The latter state adopted a new time zone, called Southeastern Time, in February when it advanced the clocks by one hour. As in Sonora, the time will remain the same throughout the year.
The time change not only means it’s lighter later but huge savings are realized in electrical energy costs. The Energy Secretariat estimates the total at almost 1.5 billion pesos, or US $101 million.
And given that a large amount of electrical power is generated by burning fossil fuels, environmental savings result as well, say energy officials.
Daylight Savings Time will remain in effect until the last Sunday in October for most of the country, and until the first Sunday in November for the border municipalities.

Zipolite Is Clean: Beach warnings issued in time for vacations Six out of 264 beaches deemed safe for swimming
Beach warnings issued in time for vacations
Six out of 264 beaches deemed safe for swimming
Mexico News Daily | Tuesday, March 31, 2015
It is Semana Santa in Mexico, Holy Week in English, a religious holiday in which more people appear to go to the beach than to church.
And while few would doubt that churches are generally safe, the same cannot always be said of beaches.
However, the federal health agency Cofepris has come out with figures to allay any worries about the quality of the water at 97.7% of Mexico’s 264 swimming beaches.
In fact, just six beaches were found to be unsafe for swimming after testing was carried out in early March in preparation for the Easter vacation season. Two are in Guerrero and four in Campeche.
Zihuatanejo’s beach La Principal, which last year earned the designation “unfit” for swimming, does so again this year after testing revealed enterococcus fecal bacteria counts of 870 per 100 milliliters of water, exceeding the limit by 670.
In Acapulco, where visitors might wonder more about security rather than health issues, Tlacopanocha is the beach to avoid for its polluted water, which was measured at 249 per 100 ml.
The good news for Acapulco — which needs all it can get — is that three other beaches — Caletilla, Caleta and Hornos — all recorded measurements of 43 or less. Another safe choice would be Playa Icacos, which has been awarded the international Blue Flag certification.
The four offending beaches in Campeche are Zacatal with 677 per 100, Manigua with 474, Norte I with 856 and Norte II with 890.
Swimmers who enter waters with high bacteria counts risk gastrointestinal, respiratory and skin issues, warned Rocío Alatorre of Cofepris.
The agency’s Clean Beaches Program conducted 2,020 tests of 264 beaches in 63 tourist destinations during the lead-up to Semana Santa, said Alatorre, using four to six water samples from each beach.
He observed that Acapulco’s numbers have improved, which he said can be attributed to infrastructure improvements such as sewage treatment, improved drainage and better garbage collection.
Alatorre said one issue causing high pollution levels in Campeche could be ships discharging sewage.
Eleven beaches in Mexico enjoy certification by Blue Flag, which is managed by an international non-profit organization. Its certification has stricter standards than Mexico’s: enterococcus bacteria counts must not exceed 100 per 100 ml of water.
