A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

How To Check A Bag For Free The Huffington Post By Carly Ledbette

How To Check A Bag For Free

Posted: Updated:

These days, it seems like airlines are doing everything in their power to add more fees onto a simple plane ticket. In 2013 alone, U.S. airlines earned an estimated $3.35 billion in checked baggage fees. Luckily, we've found a few ways to get around them.
Fliers with a ton of mileage, points or status can usually secure checked bags for free, but if you fly Southwest or JetBlue you can always check your first bag for free. And, depending on location, "regular" travelers can get a free checked bag if they're going to Central America, Europe or on certain transatlantic or transpacific flights.
Without further ado, here's how to get your checked luggage for free on six major airlines:
1. Southwest
We can't say it enough -- FLY SOUTHWEST if you have a lot of baggage. Southwest's luggage slogan is "Bags fly free," and they really mean it: all first and second checked bags are free, including golf bags and skis. Just make sure bags are theright size and at the required weight limit.
2. JetBlue
At JetBlue, you can check your first bag for free -- just make sure it's the right size, weight and not a box on international flights. Sounds easy enough.
3. Delta Air Lines
Typically, traveling from the United States or Canada to the Caribbean or Central America means you'll spend about $25 on your first checked bag. If you really want to get out of that $25, Basic Card Members with a Gold, Platinum or Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express can waive their first checked bag fee on all Delta flights. The best part? It applies to EVERYONE in your reservation (up to nine people).
But if you're flying to South America, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, China or Japan, the first checked bag is generally free already.
4. United Airlines
Again -- status is key. Those who are MileagePlus or Presidential Plus members can get up to two checked bags for free (plus two for a companion). MileagePlus Explorer Card members (or those with certain Chase credit cards) can get their first bag -- and a guest’s! -- checked for free, too. In order to avoid confusion with certain flight itineraries or locations, United provides this handy website where you can just type in your flight number and see if you get your bag for free.
5. American Airlines
If you have AAdvantage elite status, you can get checked bags free (up to three, if you're Executive Platinum). The same offer applies to passengers in first or business class.
If you're in economy, the first checked bag is free on flights to/from spots including Europe, China and South America. For specific travel plans, check with American'sworldwide reservation phone numbers to see if you can get your first bag for free.
6. US Airways
Passengers who are US Airways MasterCard or Visa card members can all check their first bag for free on domestic flights, in addition to four people in their reservation.
Since US Airways merged with American, their checked baggage policies have “aligned” -- the first bag is free on all flights to Brazil, South America and those to transatlantic or transpacific locations. If you're going to certain locations in Mexico, the Caribbean or Central America, your first checked bag might also be free.

Archaeologists Make Incredible Discoveries In Tunnel Sealed 2,000 Years Ago AP Posted: 10/30/2014 11:17 am EDT Updated: 10/30/2014 8:59 pm EDT

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A years-long exploration of a tunnel sealed almost 2,000 years ago at the ancient city of Teotihuacan yielded thousands of relics and the discovery of three chambers that could hold more important finds, Mexican archaeologists said Wednesday.
Project leader Sergio Gomez said researchers recently reached the end of the 340-foot (103-meter) tunnel after meticulously working their way down its length, collecting relics from seeds to pottery to animal bones.
A large offering found near the entrance to the chambers, some 59 feet (18 meters) below the Temple of the Plumed Serpent, suggests they could be the tombs of the city's elite.
"Because this is one of the most sacred places in all Teotihuacan, we believe that it could have been used for the rulers to ... acquire divine endowment allowing them to rule on the surface," Gomez said.
Unlike at other pre-Columbian ruins in Mexico, archaeologists have never found any remains believed to belong to Teotihuacan's rulers. Such a discovery could help shine light on the leadership structure of the city, including whether rule was hereditary.
"We have not lost hope of finding that, and if they are there, they must be from someone very, very important," Gomez said.
So far Gomez's team has excavated only about 2 feet (60 centimeters) into the chambers. A full exploration will take at least another year.
Initial studies by the National Institute of Anthropology and History show the tunnel functioned until around A.D. 250, when it was closed off.
Teotihuacan long dominated central Mexico and had its apex between 100 B.C. and A.D. 750. It is believed to have been home to more than 100,000 people, but was abandoned before the rise of the Aztecs in the 14th century.
Today it is an important archaeological site on the outskirts of Mexico City and a major tourist draw known for its broad avenues and massive pyramids.
