A little about Playa Zipolite, The Beach of the Dead . . .

Playa Zipolite, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico, on the Pacific Ocean. A little bit about my favorite little get-away on this small world of ours.

Zipolite, a sweaty 30-minute walk west from Puerto Angel, brings you to Playa Zipolite and another world. The feeling here is 1970's - Led Zep, Marley, and scruffy gringos.

A long, long time ago, Zipolite beach was usually visited by the Zapotecans...who made it a magical place. They came to visit Zipolite to meditate, or just to rest.

Recently, this beach has begun to receive day-trippers from Puerto Angel and Puerto Escondido, giving it a more TOURISTY feel than before.

Most people come here for the novelty of the nude beach, yoga, turtles, seafood, surf, meditation, vegetarians, discos, party, to get burnt by the sun, or to see how long they can stretch their skinny budget.

I post WWW Oaxaca, Mexico, Zipolite and areas nearby information. Also general budget, backpacker, surfer, off the beaten path, Mexico and beyond, information.

REMEMBER: Everyone is welcome at Zipolite.

No no no!!! I am NOT going to talk, comment or cite anything negative about my stay in Zipolite, for the simple reason that there was NO incident. Quite the opposite. This visit to Zipo was very nice. From the moment you walk through the cobblestones, you feel at home, where you can choose from an expensive hotel to the cheapest. Everything is a matter of each person's pocket. I was in various hotels in the area. I wanted to experiment. Some even served bar and kitchenette offered. Air-conditioning. Television. All the services. But, there was one that made me remember the first times I visited this paradisiacal place. The Shambhala located on a high area on the right side of this famous beach. I love the rustic, the informal, the wood, the palms, zero luxuries. Sleeping in a cabin in this place is a magical experience, when inside it you breathe tranquility, peace, cordiality with yourself. Inside you can read, listen to music, think, meditate, reflect or throw yourself on the hammock and start counting the stars that take care of your stay. Day or night living in Shambhala is a gift from God. Visiting its Meditation Hill is another prize, from where one can shudder with the sunset. This is Zipolite. This is living grateful with life. This is what I like to live. The beach of the dead, meaning of the word Zipolite, invited me to walk barefoot, naked, letting myself be caressed by the rays of the January sun. People come and go. Many in bathing suits, others without. I observed the impressive natural attitude of a unique naturism. No one sees anyone with an accusing look. On the contrary, everyone admires nudity quite naturally. And this is to be appreciated. Surveillance? I saw a couple of them on motorcycles. There is no need. Everyone in this place is respected, cared for, appreciated. There is so much nice to talk about Zipolite that I will do it another time. If you want to know it, live the experience. Live your experience. Live paradise.

No no no!!!
Vive tu experiencia. Vive el paraíso.
